BULLET/BULLET Special Talk Event Report! Director Park Sung Hoo and Cast Discuss the Action, Characters, and Even Shin Ramyun!
An exciting special talk event for the original anime `BULLET/BULLET`, created by the genius director Park Sung Hoo, known for `Jujutsu Kaisen` and `NINJA KAMUI`, was held on June 22, 2025, as part of the large-scale event “GiGO EXPO ZERO” at Bellesalle Akihabara.
At the venue, Tenjin Hidetaka, who not only voices the character DJTJ but also handles the concept and mechanical design for the series, served as the MC. He was joined by Inoue Marina-san, the voice of Gear, Seto Asami-san, the voice of Noah, and the original story creator and director, Park Sung Hoo. The event revealed the second key visual, announced the second wave of assassin voice cast, and even shared news of a collaboration with “Shin Ramyun.”
`BULLET/BULLET` is a completely original anime that Director Park Sung Hoo, known for his work on `Jujutsu Kaisen` (TV anime Season 1 and movie) and `NINJA KAMUI`, which won Best Original Anime at the “Crunchyroll Anime Awards,” has been conceptualizing for about 10 years. It tells a super lively, non-stop action story that begins when a “thief” accidentally steals “the secret of the world.”
Director Park Sung Hoo spoke about the inspiration for the work, stating, “I wanted to create an anime themed around the importance of speaking up. It’s a difficult theme and can easily become dark, but I aimed for a work that would be pop and easy for everyone to enjoy by incorporating it into the story with more understandable language.”
Inoue Marina-san, who plays the protagonist Gear, shared the charm of the series, saying, “It’s a work with many elements: action, car action, family drama, and a message that resonates with the world. Personally, what I love is the family love surrounding Gear. That became a big theme for me while playing Gear.” On the other hand, Seto Asami-san, who plays Noah, the mysterious heroine pursued by assassins, commented, “It’s a work packed with many elements, but I love the gag scenes and humorous, laughable moments sprinkled throughout the message-driven story.”
Also, Director Park discussed directing car action, which was a first for him. “I admired the car action in Hollywood movies I watched as a child, and directing car action, which I hadn’t done before, was a challenge. I made discoveries while directing various angles.”
Tenjin Hidetaka-san revealed some behind-the-scenes details about the mechanical design, saying, “The cars and robots are highlights. The bike Noah rides is imagined as a modified airplane. Its name is ‘Ark,’ like Noah’s Ark, because Noah rides it.”
Regarding the character Gear, Inoue-san mentioned, “Initially, I played Gear thinking of her as ‘the protagonist,’ but as the episodes progressed, I felt I grasped Gear better by seeing her not just as a character but as a single person who had lived in a decadent world. Perhaps the other characters were drawn to Gear’s way of living, following her emotions.”
Seto-san spoke about Noah, stating, “She might use feminine wiles or act alluringly to try and seduce Gear, but that’s just one facet of Noah and not her true self. As she opens up after meeting Gear, who is full of various elements, what emerges is not just a captivating woman but the figure of a girl her own age. When acting, I was careful not to make her seem like she was overreaching.”
Incidentally, scenes of Gear and others eating during their journey in the series often feature Nongshim Japan’s “Shin Ramyun.” Director Park commented on this, saying, “For me, it’s a ramen that reminds me of my hometown. In Korea, there’s a culture of putting hot water in the bag and eating directly from it. We thought it would be interesting to have such eating scenes while Gear and the others are traveling, so we adopted it. I’m happy that we could actually collaborate with Nongshim Japan.”
Furthermore, in line with the theme of “super lively non-stop action,” the panelists announced things they get so absorbed in they can’t stop. Tenjin-san replied, “Sanding! When I’m sanding things I’ve made with a 3D printer or plastic models, I feel calm.” Director Park responded with a smile, “Work! It’s so fun I can’t stop.”
Inoue-san prefaced her answer by saying, “I’m an adult now, so I can usually stop myself. I’m rational,” but then confessed, “When a game I like is released and I start playing… I’ll play until 3 or 4 in the morning!” which drew laughter from the audience. Seto-san revealed, “I always have music or videos playing at home. Lately, I’ve been watching videos on how to deal with brown bears and have become knowledgeable about mountains. If you encounter a brown bear, don’t play dead, and don’t turn your back.” She shared such trivia, leading Inoue-san to exclaim, “I’ve learned something!”
Also, the second key visual, newly drawn by Yoshimatsu Takahiro, the character designer and chief animation director, was unveiled for the first time on this day. Additionally, the second wave of unique assassin characters were introduced all at once. These include Naki Otoko voiced by Yamashita Daiki, Shinikuchisentaa Emma voiced by Aizawa Saya, Yamikawa Aidoru Ai voiced by Iwahashi Yuka, Tatakau Onee-chan Mari voiced by Matsui Akiha, Naomi Brilliant voiced by Himeno Haruna, SSS voiced by Ootsuki Jouichirou, Tsuyako and Sairento Kilaa Risa voiced by Ooi Marie, and Chin Kyoju voiced by Sekiguchi Yuugo.
At the end of the event, each panelist shared a message. Inoue-san said, “We recorded the voice acting over a year ago, so I’m happy that the time has finally come for everyone to watch it. It’s a work that includes a big message about how we should act and live in the world, while holding various thoughts. I hope you can watch it with enjoyment and that it can be a trigger for your own thoughts.”
Seto-san appealed, “It’s a work with a strong message, but you can naturally enjoy it while chuckling at the gags sprinkled throughout and being made to think. Each character moves with their own feelings, so I hope you enjoy every corner without missing anything.”
Finally, Director Park spoke about his confidence and feelings towards the work, saying, “I believe that if the creators aren’t having fun, it won’t reach the viewers. This is a work that everyone made with great effort while having fun. I believe this feeling will reach everyone, so please enjoy watching it.” The talk event concluded on a high note.
