Summer anime BLACK TORCH has released the synopsis and preview scene cuts for its first episode, titled “Mirai wa Oretachi no Te no Naka” (The Future is in Our Hands), which is set to premiere on July 4, 2026.
BLACK TORCH is based on the manga by Takaki Tsuyoshi, serialized in Jump SQ. and Shonen Jump+ from 2017 to 2018. The story follows Jirou Agatsuma, a high school student raised by his grandfather as a descendant of ninjas. Jirou possesses the rare ability to talk to animals. One day, he finds a wounded black cat named Rakuga in the forest. Though Rakuga appears to be an ordinary cat, its true identity is a legendary mononoke once known as the “Black Calamity.” Various forces—including other mononoke seeking to exploit Rakuga’s power and a secret government organization called the Kōgi Onmitsu Kyoku tasked with monitoring and eliminating mononoke—begin to close in. Amid swirling schemes, Jirou and Rakuga must make a stand.
Directed by Mabi Kei, the anime is produced by 100studio, the studio behind the theatrical original anime Suubunkan no Eru o, the TV anime Kono Sekai wa Fukanzen Sugiru, and Chuzenji-sensei Mononoke Kougiroku: Sensei ga Nazo o Toite Shimau kara.
The cast includes Suzuki Ryota as Jirou Agatsuma, Ueda Youji as Rakuga, Chibamoto Sayaka as Ichika Kishimojin, Enoki Junya as Reiji Kirihara, Suwabe Junichi as Ryosuke Shiba, Ueda Reina as Hana Usami, Morikawa Toshiyuki as Tenki, Okamoto Nobuhiko as Gashu, Tsuji Shinpachi as Jusei Agatsuma, Kaida Yuko as Toko Kusumi, and Otsuka Houchu as Manjuro Tokieda.

Jirou Agatsuma is a high school student with the mysterious ability to talk to animals. He was raised in a rare environment, trained in martial arts by his grandfather Jusei, a descendant of ninjas.
One day, Jirou finds a wounded black cat, Rakuga, and helps it. The cat’s true identity is a mononoke that has awakened from a long slumber…
