Will Their Mutual Unrequited Love Progress!? 『Dandadan Dai 2 Ki』

This story revolves around Momo (Ayase Momo), a high school girl born into a family of spirit mediums who awakens to psychic powers, and Okarun (Takakura Ken), an occult fanatic who had something “important” stolen by youkai. The highlights include thrilling battle scenes where powers beyond human comprehension clash, and the budding love story between the two as their feelings gradually deepen.

“Mutual unrequited love is just the best!” says Komazaki, enthusiastically explaining the appeal of the series. He was also drawn to the contrasting pairing of Okarun, the occult fanatic, and Momo, the gyaru. With the addition of Aira (Shiratori Aira) and Jiji (Enjouji Jin), Okarun and friends’ daily lives are set to become even more exciting.

“Okarun works hard at training with the sole desire to protect Momo-chan, sometimes unleashing unexpected hidden power. There’s definitely a love element properly woven into the battles,” he adds, highlighting the excellent balance between the action and the romance.

You Can’t Help But Root for Kafka! 『Kaijuu 8-gou』 Dai 2 Ki

The story follows Hibino Kafka, who at 32 years old finally joins the “Japanese Defense Force,” a goal he’s had since childhood. Despite possessing the power to transform into a kaijuu, he throws himself into the fight to exterminate them. His pursuit of his childhood friend, Ashiro Mina, who serves as the Captain of the 3rd Division, and his journey to earn recognition from those around him are truly heartwarming.

Pay close attention to the dynamic between Kafka and Mina, who are deeply conscious of each other at their core, as well as the relationship between the genius Kikor (Shinomiya Kikor) and Kafka. Although Kikor initially underestimated Kafka, she gradually builds a bond of trust with him as a companion after experiencing his personality. Will Kafka be able to fulfill the promise he made to Mina when they were children? Can he and his douki like Kikor fend off the threat of the kaijuu? We can’t take our eyes off the story in the second season.

During the discussion, the visuals of 3rd Division Vice Captain Hoshina Soushirou and 1st Division Captain Narumi Gen also became a hot topic. “Everyone loves the type of character who usually keeps their eyes closed but then opens them!” and “I’m weak to scenes where characters who usually seem unmotivated suddenly get serious,” they shared.

Going Beyond Love to Affection. 『SAKAMOTO DAYS Dai 2 Cool』

This work depicts the daily life of Sakamoto Tarou, a former legendary hitman who now runs a small shop. He fends off a continuous stream of assassins without killing them, all while protecting his family life. The highlights are Sakamoto’s incredible agility, unimaginable from his portly physique, and the cast of truly eccentric hitmen.

“It goes beyond love; it’s already affection,” “It’s a story of family love, isn’t it?” said the editorial team members, impressed by Sakamoto’s background. He suddenly retired from being a hitman after falling in love at first sight with his wife, Aoi. He’s been living peaceful days, even gaining weight from happiness. “It’s cute how he’s so strong but still completely under Aoi-san’s thumb,” and “It’s great how Touyama Nao-san’s gentle voice gives Sakamoto pressure,” they said, expressing fondness for the Sakamoto couple’s dynamic.

Even editors who were new to the series remarked, “There are a lot of characters with melo visuals that make me curious!” Karukaya added, “I’m weak to female characters who fight with large weapons,” confessing that Oosaragi had captured his heart.

Rekindles Pure Childhood Feelings! 『Jigoku Sensei Nuubee』

・Streaming Start Date: July 7th (Monday)

This is the story of Nueno Meisuke (Nuubee), the homeroom teacher for class 5-3 at Doumori Elementary, who protects his students using his spiritual powers and the “Demon Hand.” This masterpiece, whose TV anime adaptation aired from 1996 to 1997 and was a huge hit, is returning in the Reiwa era.

Arakawa recalled how he used to admire Nuubee as a hero who was a bit clumsy but always came to the rescue when it mattered. “I even told my school teacher, ‘Why aren’t you as cool as Nuubee!’ I loved him that much,” he shared. The charm of a new anime adaptation is being able to enjoy works you were hooked on as a child, again as an adult. He expressed his anticipation, wondering if watching it might even help him “regain the pure feelings of childhood.”

Furthermore, this series includes elements of romantic comedy alongside occult battles and school life. “Yukime, who claims to be Nuubee’s fiancée, is so cute!” and “Although it’s horror, people who like romantic comedies will definitely love it!” the editors confidently recommended.

No Time for Love!? 『Gachiakuta』

・Streaming Start Date: July 8th (Tuesday)

The protagonist of this work is Lud, an orphaned boy. He lives in a slum inhabited by descendants of criminals, facing discrimination. Although he found small moments of happiness living with his adoptive father, Lud, and his childhood friend Chiwa, one day he is sentenced to execution for a crime he didn’t commit. A battle to claw his way up from the abyss begins.

The tough world-building and dynamic battle scenes piqued the editors’ interest. Having focused on “love” in their discussion so far, they felt a different kind of dokidoki, thinking, “Surely there’s no time for romance in this world.” However, it seems there are moments in the early part of the story where Lud develops feelings for a certain character. How Lud’s various expressions will be depicted in the anime is also something to watch out for!

Furthermore, the original manga is highly acclaimed for its powerful artwork. In the anime, you can look forward to determined expressions and the detailed graffiti that colors every corner of the background!

Endless Interest in the Characters! 『Tougen Anki』

・Streaming Start Date: July 15th (Tuesday)

This dark fantasy set in modern times depicts the battle between Momotarou and demons. The protagonist is Ichinose Shiki, who inherits the blood of a demon. One day, he is attacked by a man from the “Momotarou Agency.” Managing to escape, Shiki decides to hone his powers at the demon training school “Rasetsu Gakuen.” The story overturns the common perception of folktales, told from the perspective of the demons.

As soon as the editors saw the official website, they were surprised, saying, “The characters have such an impact!” Especially drawing attention was Mudano Naito. They were captivated by his name, which strongly reflects his personality, his visual design featuring roller skates, and his voice actor Kamiya Hiroshi. “Viewers are probably going to fall for the characters,” and “I feel like I’ll keep watching just to find out what kind of characters they are,” they commented, noting the excellent hook.

This is a fantasy story where Denis, who was kicked out of an elite adventurer party, uses his excellent cooking skills to run a shokudou. The humanistic shokudou welcomes customers with various circumstances. The PV showed the exquisite dishes Denis prepares, drawn with convincing artwork.

The editorial team members exclaimed, “It’s definitely going to be food porn!” and “I feel like I’m going to fall in love with the food.” Although the setting is fantasy, familiar dishes like fried shrimp and chaahan (fried rice) appear. Because of this, their appetites were stimulated, leading comments like, “You can imagine the taste, which makes you even hungrier,” and “I hope they do a collaboration cafe.”

Furthermore, Arakawa was completely captivated by the magician Viviane, saying, “I’m going to watch this just for this character!” He rapidly listed his favorite points, saying, “I love a Bishounen with Ise Mariya-san’s voice, and his visual is just adorable!
