Tenmaku no Jaadugaaru Casts Kujira as Borakuchin, Third PV and Special Visual Released

The TV anime Tenmaku no Jaadugaaru has unveiled its third promotional video and a special visual, along with the announcement that veteran voice actor Kujira will voice Borakuchin, the first empress of Ogotai. A comment from Kujira has also arrived.

Based on the historical manga by Tomato Soup serialized in Akita Shoten’s Souffle, Tenmaku no Jaadugaaru is a harem drama set in 13th-century Mongolia. It follows Shitara (Fatima), a former slave girl taken prisoner by the Mongol Empire, who meets Doregene, the sixth wife of the Mongol emperor, and together they use their wits to shake the empire.

The anime began airing on July 4, 2026 (Saturday) on TV Asahi’s national “IMAnimation” slot and BS Asahi, with the first episode a two-hour special. Subsequent episodes air Saturdays at 23:30. The series is directed by Abel Gongora, with chief director Yamada Naoko, and animation production by Science SARU (known for Dandadan, The Heike Story, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!).

The cast includes Sekine Akira as Shitara, Koshimizu Ami as Doregene, Kuwashima Houko as Fatima, Saito Jun as Muhammad, Shimono Hiro as Ogotai, Suzuki Ryota as Tolui, Irino Miyu as Shira, Namikawa Daisuke as Chagatai, Nojima Kenji as Jochi, Hisano Misaki as Sorkoktani, Asai Ayaka as Moge, Shintani Mayumi as Kirgistani, and Kujira as Borakuchin.

Following the broadcast of the sixth act on August 1, the third PV and special visual were released. The visual shows Shitara (Fatima) and the other consorts gathered together, their gazes and hidden intentions intersecting in a mysterious and solemn atmosphere, symbolizing the heavy harem drama to come.

On social media, fans had been speculating about who would voice Borakuchin, the first empress of the second Mongol emperor Ogotai. The role went to Kujira, a voice actor known for her unique presence in many classic works. Borakuchin is a calm, dignified, and inscrutable character who worries about the empire’s future and the imbalance of power, secretly maneuvering behind the scenes.

Character Introduction and Comment

Borakuchin (CV: Kujira)
Ogotai’s first empress (Great Khatun). Always calm and dignified, she believes that “politics is about pulling strings in the shadows.” She worries about the empire’s future and the concentration of power, and is a woman of unfathomable depth who secretly lays plans.

Kujira (Full comment)

“I am Kujira, the voice of Borakuchin. When I received the offer, I couldn’t help but say, ‘You found me, Kujira, and cast me!’ I am a history buff and had been reading the original manga as a fan. I never imagined I would be cast in the anime, and in this role no less. Borakuchin is always reserved, calm, and a strategist who rarely shows her true intentions. She is a mysterious figure who will become a wall standing before Doregene and Shitara. I am known for playing simple, straightforward, boisterous old ladies, so this is a new type of role for me. During recording, I was constantly trial and error, helped by everyone, and I created the image of Borakuchin with love. Now, everyone, please enjoy the story of Doregene & Shitara vs. Borakuchin—truly wisdom vs. wisdom.”
