The anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima‘s online co-op multiplayer mode “Legends” (冥人奇譚) has unveiled new character visuals and additional staff. Titled Ghost of Tsushima 冥人奇譚, the project was first announced in January 2025 and is slated for a 2027 release.
Assassin, Archer, and Ronin Visuals Revealed
Character design for the anime is handled by Okazaki Takashi, known for his work on Afro Samurai, Ninja Batman, and Star Wars: Visions. The script is penned by Urobuchi Gen (Nitroplus), who also serves as series composition writer, alongside Maejima Ken (Nitroplus), who previously collaborated with Urobuchi on REVENGER and OBSOLETE.
The newly released character visuals feature three classes from the original game’s “Legends” mode:
Assassin (刺客) – A stealthy killer who takes down enemies from the shadows.
Archer (弓取) – A long-range marksman with precise shooting skills.
Ronin (牢人) – A support fighter who summons shikigami to aid allies. Each visual showcases Okazaki’s distinctive bold linework.
Urobuchi Gen × Maejima Ken × Okazaki Takashi – A Tale of the Kuroudo
Directed by Mizuno Takanobu and produced by Kamikaze Douga, the anime is produced by HAYATE – a joint venture between Aniplex and Crunchyroll – with cooperation from PlayStation Productions.
Story
The time is the Bun’ei era (late 13th century). The massive Mongol Empire army led by Khotun Khan descends upon Tsushima. The island’s samurai put up a fierce resistance, but the island is swiftly overrun. In the depths of despair, the “Kuroudo” (冥人) – those who have returned from the underworld – appear. They unleash a fierce assault to save Tsushima. Now, a mysterious storyteller reveals the tale of the Kuroudo and Tsushima…
Unlike the main Ghost of Tsushima story, the “Legends” mode is set in a dreamlike world where yokai and vengeful spirits roam. With Urobuchi Gen handling series composition, fans have been eager to see how the dark fantasy elements will be elevated.
While no specific release date was given in this update, the anime Ghost of Tsushima 冥人奇譚 was previously announced for a 2027 premiere.
