The manga Watashi o Center ni Suru to Chikaimasu ka? (Will You Swear to Make Me the Center?) is getting a TV anime adaptation. Along with the announcement, a teaser visual has been released, and original creator Wakatsuki Jun has shared a celebratory illustration and comment.

First serialized on Kodansha’s manga app Magapoke, the series made a splash when its debut chapter was posted on X (formerly Twitter) in 2023, racking up approximately 40,000 reposts and 200,000 likes. The story follows Natsuno Mizuki, a member of the national idol group Melty Strawberry who sits at the bottom of the popularity rankings and is on the verge of graduation. She has one passionate fan, Okuda Kouichi, who has supported her purely from the start. By a twist of fate, the two end up living under the same roof, forming a secret partnership to aim for the center position. It is a tale of an idol and her fan working hand in hand toward an unprecedented Japanese dream. The manga has surpassed 200,000 copies in cumulative circulation, with the latest sixth volume set for release on July 9.

The newly unveiled teaser visual depicts the relationship between the idol and her fan, as well as the circumstances that lead Mizuki and Kouichi to share a home. In his comment, Wakatsuki expressed excitement: “I can’t wait to see Melty Strawberry singing and dancing, and Kouichi waving his penlight!” He also noted that the anime production staff have carefully considered the characters, resulting in wonderful scripts and character designs.

To commemorate the anime adaptation, Magapoke will offer free reading of volumes 1 and 2 from July 9 to July 15, 2025. This is a perfect chance to check out the story of a determined idol and her sole fan climbing the ranks of the idol world.
Full Comment from Wakatsuki Jun
“I can’t believe it! ‘Watashi o Center ni Suru to Chikaimasu ka?’ is getting an anime adaptation! I’m so surprised! It feels like a dream! Since this was my first serialization, I was often lost and drawing by trial and error, so when my editor told me it might become an anime, I was happy but honestly more anxious. However, the reliable anime production staff blew those worries away. They really thought about what kind of characters Kouichi and Zukki (Mizuki) are, and the scripts and character designs turned out wonderful. Thank you! I can’t wait to see Melty Strawberry singing and dancing, and Kouichi waving his penlight!”
