Big News for Dragon Maid Fans! New Cast and Illustration Revealed for the Movie!
Get ready for more adorable dragon antics! The official website for the *Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishiragariya no Ryuu* anime movie recently dropped some exciting updates. Alongside its theatrical release, which kicked off on Friday, fans were treated to the reveal of additional cast members joining the fun, plus a lovely original illustration celebrating the movie’s debut.
The special illustration was a collaborative effort between the original manga’s creator, Cool-kyou Shinja, and character designer Miku Kadowaki. It’s always a treat to see the original artist team up with the animation staff for something special!
Behind the Scenes: Staff and Studio
Bringing the world of dragons and office workers to life is the esteemed studio Kyoto Animation. Steering the ship as director is Tatsuya Ishihara, known for his work on series like **Hibike! Euphonium**.
The script for the movie was penned by Yuka Yamada, who also worked on anime such as **Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita!**. Meanwhile, the charming character designs were handled by Miku Kadowaki, who you might recognize from **Tsurune**. Handling the music production to set the mood are Lantis and Heart Company.

The Original Story
The *Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon* story began as a slice of life fantasy manga by Cool-kyou Shinja. It first started serializing in Monthly Action magazine back in May 2013. The manga has been quite popular, with Futabasha having published 17 volumes as of June 2025.
The universe has expanded beyond just the main story, with the magazine serializing five spin-off series focusing on various supporting characters. The most recent of these is *Ilulu wa Koi toka Wakarimasen!*, which translates to *Iruru Has No Clue About Love!*, and that one just launched in November 2024.
For fans outside of Japan, Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the manga for English release under the name *Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid*. They picked it up back in December 2015. They released the 15th volume in December 2024, and the 16th volume went on sale quite recently, on November 25. Seven Seas isn’t stopping there either; they are also publishing several of the spin-off series, including *Kanna no Nichijou*, *Elma no OL Nikki*, and *Okomorigurashi no Fafnir*.
