From the summer anime Ghost in the Shell: THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, the synopsis and preview cuts for the second episode, titled “SUPER SPARTAN ii + JUNK JUNGLE i”, have been released. The episode is set to air on July 14, 2026.

Ghost in the Shell is a landmark cyberpunk SF series set in a near future where information networks and cybernetic technology are highly advanced, and people are connected to cyberspace. It follows the exploits of a special unit led by the full-body cyborg Kusanagi Motoko as they combat cybercrime. Originating from the 1989 manga by Shirow Masamune, the franchise has expanded into numerous anime, a Hollywood live-action film, video games, and more, influencing creators and culture worldwide.

The latest series, Ghost in the Shell: THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, is produced by Science SARU, the studio behind the acclaimed TV anime Dandadan. The director is Moko-chan, making his directorial debut after serving as assistant director on Dandadan and other Science SARU works. The cast includes Sakamoto Maaya as Kusanagi Motoko, Yamaji Kazuhiro as Aramaki Daisuke, Yasumoto Hiroki as Batou, Nakamura Yuuichi as Togusa, Gotou Kousuke as Ishikawa, Nara Tooru as Saito, Ooi Maria as the Operator, and Kaneda Tomoko as Fuchikoma.

Episode 2 Synopsis

Kusanagi and her team begin their activities as Section 9 after being scouted by Aramaki.

One day, a virus infiltrates the cyberbrain of the Foreign Minister’s interpreter. Sensing that exiled Colonel Mares may be attempting to disrupt a secret meeting, Aramaki orders Kusanagi and the team to track the culprit via reverse tracing.

Episode 2 of Ghost in the Shell: THE GHOST IN THE SHELL will air on July 14, 2026, on Kantele・Fuji TV’s national network “Hi Anime Bar!!” slot.
