A new collaboration between Gekijouban Mononoke Chapter 3: Snake God and fashion brand MAYLA brings two skirt designs that blend the beauty of Japanese traditional wear with modern mode aesthetics. The skirts, under the brand’s tagline “Your body temperature rises by 2°C,” are available for pre-order until July 16 at 17:00 JST.
The Mononoke franchise originated from the 2006 series Kai ~ayakashi~ and its “Bakeneko” arc, later becoming its own TV anime in 2007. It follows the mysterious Medicine Seller as he travels across Japan to exorcise mononoke—spirits born from human emotions and grudges. The theatrical trilogy set in the Ōoku began with Gekijouban Mononoke: Karakasa in July 2024, followed by Chapter 2: Hinezumi in March 2025. The final chapter, Snake God, has been in theaters since May 29.
MAYLA’s “Gekijouban Mononoke Chapter 3: Snake God Iconic Skirt” comes in two versions: the “Medicine Seller” model and the “Shingi” model.
The Medicine Seller model features MAYLA’s original textile woven with motifs from the character’s costume—patterns, scales, talismans, a backpack ornament, and a mirror. The high-quality, delicate fabric with a washi-paper-like texture and layered colors evokes the unique atmosphere where fantasy and reality intersect. The design follows the color settings of the film and recalls the concepts of “Form, Truth, and Reason.”
The Shingi model combines the patterns that appear on the face, the halo of the exorcism sword, swirling clouds, and background motifs into a psychedelic, mysterious finish. The fabric features a subtle vermilion bleed reminiscent of ink on washi paper, recreating the film’s uneasy yet beautiful fantasy world.
Both skirts are adorned at the back with a large ribbon styled like an obi (kimono sash), adding a subtle Japanese touch and a haunting afterglow. A metal motif at the waist, which guides the Medicine Seller to the mononoke, is also included. A chain that can be hung from the back ribbon symbolizes the “enishi” (fate) and “inga” (causality) central to the story.
