Voice actress Sakuma Rei, who voices Batako-san in the long-running anime Soreike! Anpanman, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a hilarious script error that has fans laughing out loud.

On July 30, Sakuma posted a photo of the script, revealing a moment where Batako’s line was mistakenly attributed to the villain Baikinman. The line in question: “Batako: ‘Anpanmaaaan!’ Baikinman: ‘Here’s a new face! That!'” Sakuma commented, “Huh? Simple character name mistake but too funny. I imagined it and read it in Baikinman’s voice.”
Soreike! Anpanman first aired on Nippon TV in October 1988, with its first theatrical film released in March 1989. The series has been delivering “love and courage” to children across Japan through the Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras.
Fans on X reacted with amusement and warmth. Comments included: “Maybe it’s Baikinman’s scheme to give a fake face,” “This is funny www,” “A mistake but hilarious,” “I imagined it too lol,” “I want to hear it in Nakao Ryuusei’s voice!” (Nakao is the voice of Baikinman), “He’d probably throw a moldy face instead of a new one,” “I’d love to see this version,” and “If Baikinman said it, it would be funny lol.”
Sakuma made her voice acting debut in 1985 with the anime Yume no Hoshi no Button Nose. She first voiced Batako-san in 1988 and has continued the role for approximately 38 years. Beyond Anpanman, she is known for roles such as Shampoo in Ranma 1/2, Jiji in Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Melody in Onegai My Melody, and Little My in Tanoshii Moomin Ikka.
