The summer 2026 anime Kimi ga Shinu made Koi wo Shitai (I Want to Do Love Until You Die) aired its fifth episode, “Owaranai Yoru” (Endless Night), on August 4, 2026. Based on the manga by Aono Nachi serialized in Ichijinsha’s “Ichijin Plus,” the series follows girls raised as living weapons in an orphanage that doubles as a military training facility. The story centers on 14-year-old Totsuki Shiina, who struggles to accept the constant death around her, and Kagari Mimi, a cheerful and seemingly innocent girl known as the school’s “secret weapon.”

Return Day and the Library
Episode 5 begins with the “Return Day” event, where students pass on items they no longer need. As part of the event, Shiina and Mimi help clean the underground library. Mimi playfully levitates books, while Shiina laments her own weak magical power, feeling useless. Nearby, a classmate named Haru, who served as a record keeper during a mock battle, struggles to reach a high shelf. Shiina helps him.

“The record keeper from the other day?” “Ah, the record keeper.” “So he’s a boy…” “His name is finally revealed.” Haru’s appearance piqued viewers’ curiosity.
After Haru leaves, Mimi accidentally drops a pile of books on her head. Shiina rushes to comfort her, and Mimi snuggles up like a cat, saying, “More. More. Do it more. More.” Fans noted: “Her magical power is weak, but her maternal instinct is strong.”

Esta-senpai Appears
After the library work, the Return Day event continues. A senior student dresses Mimi in a cute one-piece dress. Mimi points and exclaims, “The person who was kissing!” It’s the same woman who was seen kissing someone late at night in episode 1. Her name is Esta (CV: Shiraishi Haruka). Fans laughed: “The person who was kissing lol” “The way she said it lol” “The one who kissed in episode 1.”

Esta offers the dress to Mimi and then suggests a matching one to Shiina, saying, “Please take it. I can’t wear it together anymore…” She looks down. Viewers quickly understood: “‘Can’t wear it together’… that means…” “Her roommate must have died.” “It’s sorting through belongings…” “So sad.”
Bath Time
One night, Mimi returns from a summons with blood on her clothes—not her own, but from enemies she killed. Relieved, Shiina invites her to the bath. Mimi happily gets her hair washed, but Shiina thinks, “Mimi still smells of blood.” She realizes Mimi continues to kill people every day.

Fans went wild: “Bath scene!!” “NY here we go!” “Camera, can you pull back a little more?!”
In the bath, Mimi swims and plays, even recreating a magic spell used by an enemy that day. Shiina, troubled, asks, “Mimi, what if you went to the battlefield and never came back? What if you could never see Fran-sensei or me again?” Mimi protests, “But I won’t die.” Shiina struggles to explain that war means loss—everyone has someone waiting for them, and death ends all that.

Viewers commented: “Why change the mood so suddenly?” “Heavy talk… heartbreaking.” “Mimi doesn’t die, so normal logic doesn’t apply.” “Shiina isn’t suited for war.” “In this world, Shiina’s thinking is right, but the world is twisted.”
Consulting Fran-sensei
Shiina visits the school nurse Fran-sensei (CV: Uchiyama Yumi) to discuss Mimi. Fran-sensei smokes and says, “No one thinks Mimi is right. But there’s no other way. To reduce casualties, this is the only option. That’s reality.” She urges Shiina to think about what she truly wants.

Fans were taken aback: “The conversation is heavy…” “Why are they even fighting?” “How many conflicts does this world have?”
“I’ll Definitely Wait for You”
Later, as Shiina brushes Mimi’s hair, another summons comes. Mimi pouts, “I went yesterday too,” but then says, “I’ll definitely come back today. So wait for me, Shiina!” Shiina runs after her and says, “I’ll definitely wait for you. Come back without getting hurt.”
Fans couldn’t hide their anxiety: “Will she come back?” “This feels like Mimi won’t return…” “I know Mimi won’t die and Shiina doesn’t go to the battlefield, so no one dies, but the tension is unbearable.”
sajou no hana vocalist sana, who performs the ending theme “Eternel,” tweeted: “This episode made me think a lot. Shiina’s honest words at the end were great… Uneasy feeling… I hope Mimi is safe.”

I don’t know what’s right, but they’re searching for the answer together… What a thought-provoking story.”
