The seventh episode of the TV anime Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari, titled “Super no Ura to Natsu no Owari” (The Back of the Supermarket and the End of Summer), aired on August 20, 2026. As always, the heartwarming (and sometimes painfully dense) relationship between Sasaki and Tayama had fans swooning, while the introduction of a new character and a surprising voice actor reveal sent social media into overdrive.

Based on the manga by Jinushi, which began serialization on X on March 9, 2022, Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari follows 45-year-old salaryman Sasaki and 24-year-old supermarket employee Tayama, who bond over cigarettes at the back entrance of a supermarket. The anime, directed by Suzuki Rito and Mori Aoi and produced by Asahi Production, stars Satou Takuya as Sasaki and Hoshiki Narumi as Yamada/Tayama. The series began airing on July 9, 2026.

In this episode, Sasaki worries about not seeing Yamada at the register for two weeks. Tayama explains he’s been studying for a staff promotion test, and Sasaki apologizes for prying. Fans immediately teased Sasaki for his obliviousness, calling him “nibusu” (dense) and “kawaii” (cute) in equal measure.

Following Tayama’s suggestion, Sasaki writes an encouragement message for Yamada. When Tayama says he’ll pass it along, Sasaki panics, but Tayama gives him a piece of paper with the words “You may punch” and a doodle, meant to help when his awful boss gets on his case. Later, when Sasaki is scolded by his boss, he looks at the paper and smiles. Meanwhile, Yamada passes the test and reads Sasaki’s message with a warm smile. Fans flooded social media with comments like “Sasaki’s handwriting is beautiful!” and “Just get married already!”

The sweetness continued when Tayama learns that Sasaki keeps the message in his pass case. Tayama, in turn, reveals she still treasures the portable ashtray Sasaki gave her in episode 3. The mutual affection had fans hyperventilating: “They’re too cute!” “I can’t stop grinning!” “She sleeps with the ashtray he gave her? Too adorable!”

In the second half, new character Maezawa Chief (voiced by Hikasa Youko) makes her debut. Her high-energy, quirky personality immediately impressed viewers, with many noting “She’s just like Hikasa-san herself.” Maezawa mentions a ghost in the back of the supermarket, prompting Tayama to try to scare Sasaki. But Sasaki, ever the tired salaryman, replies that real humans are scarier than ghosts—a line that drew both laughter and sympathy.

Just then, a noise comes from an empty area. Tayama, who is actually scared, instinctively grabs Sasaki’s jacket—a moment that had fans squealing. The source of the noise turns out to be a cute dog named Daigoro-san, who looks remarkably like veteran staff member Ono. The dog is being temporarily cared for by the store manager, who asks Tayama to report what happened, leading fans to joke that the manager is just enjoying the romance unfolding.

Later, Sasaki, feeling down after another run-in with his boss, heads to the back of the supermarket, where Tayama is waiting for him. They start with a foot bath but soon end up splashing each other with water—a perfect, tender summer scene that closed the episode.

During the credits, it was revealed that Daigoro-san’s voice was provided by Satou Takuya, who also voices Sasaki. Fans were shocked, and director Suzuki Rito shared on the official account that they simply asked Satou at a drinking party and he agreed. The behind-the-scenes story delighted fans, who praised the production team for their generosity in sharing such details.
Episode 8, titled “Super no Ura kara Mitsukeru Futari,” is scheduled to air on August 27, 2026.
