Kanojo, Okarishimasu (which can be translated as “Rent-A-Girlfriend”) is a charming romantic comedy based on the manga by Miyajima Reiji, serialized in Koodansha’s “Weekly Shounen Magazine.” The story follows Kinoshita Kazuya, a somewhat hapless college student whose life takes a dramatic turn after he introduces his beautiful and pure “rental girlfriend,” Mizuhara Chizuru, to his family and friends as his “real” girlfriend. The TV anime adaptation first aired its first season in July 2020, quickly captivating audiences with the overwhelming cuteness of its heroines. This led to subsequent successful seasons, with the second season broadcasting in July 2022 and the third season following in July 2023.

The highly anticipated fourth season, currently airing in two split cours since July, delves deeper into Kinoshita Kazuya’s journey. Having successfully crowdfunded their film project, Kazuya finally resolves his “commitment” to Mizuhara Chizuru. Meanwhile, Sarashina Ruka, his assertive “temporary” girlfriend, becomes even more proactive in her pursuit of Kazuya. Adding to the drama, Nanami Mami, Kazuya’s devilishly charming ex-girlfriend who knows the “true” nature of his relationship with Chizuru, makes a sudden approach towards Chizuru, leading to tense situations. The story escalates with those around them getting involved, and the setting soon shifts to the tropical paradise of “Hawaiians.”
