An art exhibition based on the anime Ashita no Joe is set to tour five Japanese cities in fall 2026. Titled Anime ‘Ashita no Joe’ Art Touring Exhibition, it will begin in Osaka on September 25, 2026, then travel to Tokyo, Yokohama, Fukuoka, and Nagoya.
The event will display and sell artworks that turn famous scenes from the anime into GAAAT’s original ‘Metal Canvas Art (MCA).’ Original merchandise will also be available at the venues.
Ashita no Joe: A Boxing Manga Classic
Ashita no Joe is a classic boxing manga with an original story by Takamori Asao and artwork by Chiba Tetsuya. It follows Yabuki Joe, a drifting orphan with no family, who encounters boxing and his destined rival Rikiishi Tooru. The story depicts men who burn their lives in professional boxing. The series has been developed across TV anime, live-action films, stage productions, and other media.
What Is Metal Canvas Art?
The Metal Canvas Art in the exhibition uses up to 32 layers. The resulting depth and the texture unique to metal give a three-dimensional expression to the light and shadow of the manga’s powerful gekiga brushwork. Each piece is carefully handmade by specialist artisans, and visitors can appreciate the solidity, beauty, and three-dimensionality of the metal material.
Examples of works on display and for sale include ‘Gekijouban Ashita no Joe 2/04’ (220,000 yen), ‘Ashita no Joe/01’ (220,000 yen), and ‘Gekijouban Ashita no Joe 2/01’ (220,000 yen).
Original Exhibition Goods
The venues will also offer original goods for the exhibition. Items include a ‘T-shirt Anime Ashita no Joe M/L’ (8,250 yen) and a ‘Muffler Towel’ (4,950 yen), giving fans a way to enjoy the world of Ashita no Joe in everyday life through a different form than the art pieces.
