The TV anime adaptation of Shinzou Keigo’s Hirayasumi will air on NHK General TV starting in January 2027. The production has also unveiled its main visual and a teaser PV, which gives the first look at the anime footage and the first listen to the character voices.
The main cast features Uchida Yuuma as protagonist Ikuta Hiroto, Takahashi Mayu as Kobayashi Natsumi, and Aikawa Rikako as Wada Hanae.
Shinzou Keigo’s original manga has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits since April 2021. It currently has 10 collected volumes, and total worldwide circulation has surpassed 1.7 million copies. The story is a moving slice-of-life drama set around life in a single-story house in Asagaya.
Hiroto is a carefree free spirit with no steady job, no lover, and no apparent anxiety about the future that many would normally have. After becoming friends with a neighborhood grandmother, Wada Hanae, through his good nature alone, he receives a single-story house from her for free. He then begins living there with his 18-year-old cousin, Kobayashi Natsumi, who has come to Tokyo from Yamagata to attend art university. Over time, people carrying various troubles—work, relationships, vague worries about the future, and other difficulties—begin to gather around Hiroto. To those people, Hiroto comes to seem like a warm place where they can rest their hearts.
The manga has earned high praise in Japan and abroad, including the 71st Shogakukan Manga Award and the Best Ongoing Comic Series award at Lucca Comics & Games 2024. A screen adaptation project launched in July 2025, and the NHK night drama Hirayasumi, broadcast in autumn of that year, was widely discussed for its gentle portrayal of Hiroto’s way of life and found fans across generations.
The main visual captures a quiet everyday moment between Hiroto and his cousin Natsumi. On the veranda, Hiroto’s close friend Hideki and Natsumi’s university classmate Akari watch the pair with calm expressions, while real estate agent Yomogi also happens to pass by. The flowers in the garden that the house’s owner, Baa-chan, treasured are shown sparkling, emphasizing the gentle atmosphere and warm connections among the characters.
The teaser PV introduces the anime’s first animated footage, along with the cast and character voices. Uchida Yuuma, whose roles include Fushiguro Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen, Ash Lynx in BANANA FISH, and Mikage Reo in Blue Lock, plays protagonist Ikuta Hiroto. Takahashi Mayu, who won semi-grand prix in the next-generation voice actor discovery and development project ‘Kimikoe Project’ and has appeared in titles such as Yuusha ga Shinda!, has been chosen as Kobayashi Natsumi. Aikawa Rikako, known for roles such as Fuguta Taro in Sazae-san, Isishi in the Kaiketsu Zorori series, and Pioran in To Your Eternity, takes on Wada Hanae, also called Baa-chan. The cast members have also contributed comments.
With the new announcement, the official website has also reopened. The TV anime Hirayasumi is scheduled to air on NHK General TV starting in January 2027.

Takahashi Mayu as Kobayashi Natsumi
I am Takahashi Mayu, and I will be playing Kobayashi Natsumi. When I read the original, I thought there was no character I could relate to so much, and I absolutely wanted to play Nacchan. I am truly happy to be involved in this beloved and wonderful work. Hiro-nii wraps up forgotten small joys, worries, and feelings you did not want to show others, telling you that it is okay. After watching, you will surely find your everyday life precious. I will do my best, so please look forward to it!
Aikawa Rikako as Wada Hanae
The characters are all kind. But deep in their hearts, they also have pain and worries. Hirayasumi is less a heart-fluttering feeling and more a heart-tightening one—and then, later, a move to tears. I am also feeling that heart-tightening, then moved feeling, because a work I love is becoming an anime and I get to play Wada Hanae, whom Hiroto calls Baa-chan.
