Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 4th season finale.
The 4th season of the TV anime Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu reached its finale with an extended 45-minute episode, the 85th overall, titled ‘Shaula / Hero.’ The story arc that began with a journey to save the victims of the Sin Archbishops came down to the wire, and fans who watched the earliest broadcasts, ABEMA streams, and the 11 p.m. terrestrial airing flooded X with reactions. The episode’s developments stirred viewers so much that posts seemed to overwhelm timelines.
Below is a roundup of reactions from fans who watched the terrestrial broadcast, capturing the heat of the moment.

Early Calls for a 5th Season
Subaru and his allies had been steadily overcoming five obstacles. By the final stretch, only two groups remained: Emilia, who had encountered the divine dragon Volcanica in the first layer, and the team of Subaru, Beatrice, and Meili, who faced a stampede of demon beasts and a giant scorpion.
What made the first layer so mysterious was Volcanica’s manner and the secrets hidden there. Multiple handprints were found, and one of them fit Emilia’s hand perfectly—a coincidence that seemed far too convenient. Volcanica also called Emilia ‘Stella, the Witch of Envy’ and made remarks hinting at a connection to Flugel, Reid, Shaula, and Farsale.
‘If you have become the Witch of Envy, we must stop you…!’ Volcanica declared, speaking as though fully aware of how and why Stella became the Witch of Envy. Without learning the truth behind those words, Volcanica and Emilia clashed, and their battle came to an end.

Meanwhile, Subaru’s group was fighting the demon beast stampede and the giant scorpion when a critical emergency struck: Meili was gravely injured by an attack from Shaula, who had transformed into a scorpion. At that moment, Julius arrived in dramatic fashion.
‘Sorry to keep you waiting.’

Viewers felt the same reassurance Subaru did at this hero-like entrance. Comments included, ‘Great timing!’ ‘His entrance is just like Reinhard’s!’ and ‘Sorry to keep you waiting is way too cool.’ After Emilia overwhelmed Volcanica and the first layer was finally cleared, Subaru and the others turned their attention to saving Shaula, who alone remained in her scorpion form. Subaru fought alongside Julius and Beatrice to bring her back.

During the battle, viewers noticed the scars on Subaru and Julius’s cheeks. ‘The scars on Subaru and Julius are in matching positions—so emotional,’ one post read. Fans also delighted in Subaru and Beatrice’s teamwork: ‘They even brush the sand off their mouths in perfect sync.’ ‘The way they both say Pfft! together is too cute.’ ‘Beako’s eyes went blank for a second, and it was adorable.’ The group’s deepened bond from their journey together drew warm reactions.
Despite the efforts of Subaru, Beatrice, Julius, and a recovered Meili, Shaula did not return to her original form and instead said her farewell. Subaru, perhaps lamenting his own lack of power, fought back tears as he wept silently. Shaula, as if concerned for him, smiled and kissed him.
‘Master, I love you.’
Shaula’s wish was not granted in full, but her feelings were directed at Subaru with everything she had. As if to comfort him, she put on a brave face: ‘400 years was nothing. It was like tomorrow’s tomorrow.’ Then she continued, ‘Because…’ and turned to him with her brightest smile.
‘The time I spent waiting, I loved you too!’
Shaula stayed strong until the very end and held fast to her love for Subaru. Viewers posted in resistance to the ending they had suspected was coming: ‘Ah… so it’s no good…’ ‘Don’t go.’ ‘Shaula is too cute.’ Shoulders dropped across the fandom.
Then, a single hope appeared.
From within the collapsed giant scorpion emerged a tiny scorpion small enough to sit in a palm. It scurried over to Subaru’s feet. As if reborn, the small scorpion recognized him and calmly climbed onto his hand.

‘I was holding it in, but I cried a little when Mini Shaula appeared…’
‘It was like tomorrow’s tomorrow! That’s one of my favorite Shaula lines of all time.’
‘I cried so many times at this scene in the original novel, and I cried a lot in the anime too. Thank you so much.’
‘I’m really glad Shaula was played by Fairouz Ai!’
Like Subaru, viewers seemed to believe they would meet Shaula again one day.

With all the trials overcome, Subaru and the others moved forward—but while Emilia was safe, Rem and Julius’s memories still appeared to be lost. The next step would be to use the captured Roy to search for a way to restore those memories. Yet before that could happen, another anomaly struck.
Space cracked open, and the third Gluttony, Louis, appeared. Then some kind of interference from Satella occurred, and before anyone knew it, Subaru and Rem were in an unfamiliar land. Just when Rem finally seemed to awaken, she ended the season with a single line.

‘Who… are you?’
The 4th season of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu delivered a finale that satisfied viewers until the very last moment, with reactions like ‘I was made to cry twice in 40 minutes…’ Calls for a 5th season were already pouring in, showing just how high expectations are for a continuation.
