The money-game anime FX Senshi Kurumi-chan began its TV broadcast on October 1, 2026 (Thursday). Episode 1, titled "FX tte, Naa ni?" ("What Is FX?"), has quickly become a talking point online, thanks to a surprisingly serious warning, a terrifying performance by Noto Mamiko, and theme songs packed with financial jargon and currency names.
Based on the original work by Demunyan with art by Tansan Daisuki, FX Senshi Kurumi-chan is serialized in Monthly Comic Flapper. The story follows Fukaga Kurumi, a young woman who makes a major decision to take on FX (foreign exchange margin trading). In Episode 1, Kurumi returns home from school and suddenly hears her mother screaming.

A warning that rivals horror
Before the episode begins, the anime displays the following notice:
This story is fiction.
FX (foreign exchange margin trading) is a high-risk product, and losses may exceed the margin.
Excessive trading may disrupt your life, so please think carefully and act prudently.
The 2026 summer anime Yani Neko drew attention for a post-broadcast warning that underage smoking and drinking are strictly prohibited by law, but Kurumi-chan’s notice appears to have an even bigger impact. Viewers reacted with comments such as "I’ve never seen a warning like this before…", "The warning is too serious, I can’t even laugh", and "This is scarier than a horror anime."
Noto Mamiko’s desperate scream
After the shock of the warning, the opening scene delivers even more fear. Kurumi comes home and hears her mother’s painful cry: "Please! If we break through here, it’s over! Let me win at least once at the end!"
When Kurumi opens the door in concern, she finds her mother exhausted in front of a computer monitor. Her mother then reveals that she has used 20 million yen.
The mother is played by Noto Mamiko, known for her soothing voice. Her performance here left viewers stunned: "I’ve never heard Noto Mamiko scream like that…", "A truly insane scream", "Her acting was full of despair, as expected…", and "I re-realized how amazing Noto Mamiko is."

After the scream, her mother’s line "Keep it a secret from your father…" also hits hard. But the intense opening takes a turn when Kurumi realizes that if 20 million yen can be lost so easily, then there must be a way to earn 20 million yen just as easily. She decides to study FX, though she is still a middle school student and too young to actually trade.
Then one day, before Kurumi graduates from high school, her mother takes her own life.

Five years later, Kurumi is a third-year university student and has reached the age of 20, old enough to trade FX. She thinks, "If I had worked harder, my mother wouldn’t have died."
FX is a method of buying and selling foreign currencies that fluctuate daily and earning a profit from the difference.
Kurumi’s battle in FX now begins. Social media reactions included: "Another amazing anime has started", "Like Yani Neko, this is a cautionary tale that recommends you not do this", "Who would watch this and start FX?", and "It’s amazing that Japanese anime produces works like this." Some viewers also said, "The story is too heavy from the first episode." However, the contrast between the cute character designs and the heavy, realistic-feeling story, along with the tense direction, makes it hard to look away from what happens to Kurumi next.

Theme songs go all in
The opening theme "FX Senshi Kurumi-chan" and ending theme "$・¥・◯" are both performed by Fukaga Kurumi (CV: Suzuki Aina). The ◯ in the ending theme is properly the euro symbol.
The opening theme lyrics include phrases unlikely to appear in many other songs, such as "the maximum amount you can borrow with a credit card", "lifetime income deposited in one lump", and "dollar-yen short! dollar-yen short!"

The ending theme also scatters foreign currency names throughout its lyrics. It lists the Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Singapore dollar, and New Zealand dollar, then asks if dollar currencies alone can become a song, before adding the US dollar. A music video featuring comedian Okano Youichi and Kuuki Kaidan’s Suzuki Mogura has also been released.

After the broadcast, original creator Demunyan posted a "mysterious spell" on social media. Could it be the lyrics from the ending theme?

Suzuki Aina, who voices Kurumi, posted: "Despair from the very start… Mom… ( ; ; ) And from here Kurumi’s fate is…!! Don’t miss Episode 2!" She also shared Tansan Daisuki’s end card, saying, "What a wonderful despairing end card…!!!"
