Gensou Suikoden Episode 1 ‘Furusato’ Scene Cuts Revealed as Riou and Jowy Face a Night Ambush

The TV anime Gensou Suikoden has unveiled the synopsis and advance scene cuts for its first episode, ‘Furusato’ (Hometown), which starts airing on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Gensou Suikoden is a flagship RPG series from KONAMI that began with the first game released in Japan in 1995. Each entry introduces a new setting and new characters, and the series depicts weighty, war-themed stories through intricately constructed lore and more than 108 distinctive characters.

The TV anime adapts the second game, Gensou Suikoden II. Satou Yuuzou directs, and KONAMI animation handles production and production. Kumagai Toshiki voices the protagonist Riou, while Tsuchiya Shinba voices his best friend Jowy.

Riou and his close friend Jowy belong to the youth soldier unit of the Highland Kingdom, a powerful military force in the northeastern Dunan region. The two look up at the same starry sky, sleep in the same tent, and believe in the same future. Once this battle ends, once dawn breaks, their everyday life will return. But those hopes are dashed as the two are drawn into a destined vortex led by the flames of war. The powerless boys obtain a mighty power. Under a night sky where the 108 stars shine especially bright, they begin to walk according to their own beliefs, holding unanswerable questions in their hearts.

Episode 1 ‘Furusato’ Synopsis

Riou and his best friend Jowy were on an expedition as members of the Highland Kingdom’s youth soldier unit. But on their last night, when they were supposed to return to their hometown of Kyaro the next day, where their childhood friend Nanami waits, they are ambushed by enemies in the mountains. Cornered by soldiers, the two promise to meet again and leap into a nighttime waterfall.

When Riou wakes from unconsciousness, he finds himself inside a mercenary fort of the enemy City-State Alliance army. While working at the fort as a prisoner, doubt about the Highland army begins to grow within him. Were they set up? If so, by whom? Jowy then appears before Riou. Jowy, too, had drifted into enemy territory.

To learn all the answers, they will return to the city of Kyaro. Having sworn this, Riou and Jowy escape the fort. But ahead of them awaits an even larger vortex of conspiracy.
