Synopsis
"Eat or die!"
Mars, the twelve-year-old first prince of the kingdom of Farune, lives in constant fear of assassination. Because almost every meal he is served contains deadly poison, he sneaks out of the castle and into a nearby forest filled with monsters. There, fighting both monsters and hunger, he hunts for food to survive.
One night, while looking for his next piece of monster meat, he meets a red-haired woman carrying a greatsword. She tells him, "You have promise. Become my apprentice." Mars is sure there has been a mistake, but the woman knows a secret he has just discovered: eating monsters makes you stronger.
With her training and his new power, Mars finally has a way to fight back against the assassination attempts. But that is only the start of nationwide—and even continent-spanning—wars and schemes that put him right in the middle.
