Ranma 1/2 is a beloved martial arts romantic comedy based on the incredibly popular manga by Takahashi Rumiko, a celebrated artist known for other classics like Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Inuyasha, Kyoukai no RINNE, and MAO. The manga was serialized in “Weekly Shounen Sunday” from issue 36 of 1987 to issue 12 of 1996, and it continues to command a massive following even today.
This “completely new anime adaptation,” directed by Uda Kounosuke and animated by the renowned studio MAPPA, saw its first season broadcast from October to December 2024. The return of key cast members, including Yamaguchi Kappei as Saotome Ranma, Hayashibara Megumi as Ranma (female form), and Hidaka Noriko as Tendou Akane, generated immense excitement, creating a buzz that has continued from before its premiere right up to the present.
The heartwarming yet chaotic story kicks off when Saotome Genma and his son, Ranma, return from their martial arts training in China and arrive at the Tendou household. However, instead of the expected duo, a giant panda and an adorable girl appear! Ranma, due to a mysterious curse encountered during his training in China, transforms into a girl when splashed with cold water and reverts to a boy when splashed with hot water. Together with an array of uniquely eccentric characters, Ranma and his companions embark on a journey filled with laughter, tears, and, occasionally, a touch of romance.

Ranma finds himself in a fiery predicament after Cologne presses a special pressure point, giving him “Soshin Nekojita” – a condition that makes him incredibly sensitive to heat.
To cure this newfound weakness, Ranma needs Cologne’s magical pellet: the “Fushichougan” (Phoenix Pill).
But acquiring the Fushichougan isn’t easy; it demands mastering the legendary and elusive martial art: the “Kachuu Tenshin Amaguriken” (Fist of Heavenly Sweet Chestnuts in Fire)!
Struggling against the intense heat, Ranma suddenly gets an idea from a traditional goldfish scooping game. Inspired, he boldly challenges Cologne to a decisive battle!
Episode 15, “Kachuu Tenshin Amaguriken,” of the autumn anime Ranma 1/2 Season 2, will air on Nippon TV starting Saturday, October 18, at 24:55 (effectively Sunday, October 19, at 12:55 AM JST). It will be broadcast sequentially across Japan on the Nippon TV network, and will also be exclusively distributed on Netflix immediately after its broadcast.
