From October 27th to November 9th marks “Reading Week” in Japan, a perfect opportunity to get lost in a good story. Given that manga often serve as the original works for popular anime, many of you likely have ongoing series that you’re eagerly following, wondering what will happen next.
There are countless reasons why fans are captivated by the unfolding narratives, whether it’s an ongoing series where the wait for the next chapter is unbearable, or a beloved title whose resumption many passionately hope for.
To tap into this excitement, Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey asking: “Which Incomplete Manga Are You Most Eager to See the Continuation Of?” We received 126 responses during the survey period from October 12th to October 19th. The gender breakdown showed approximately 35% male and 65% female, indicating a higher participation from women. Regarding age groups, about 45% were under 19, while both the 20s and 50s each accounted for roughly 15% of the respondents.

What will the ending be?! Long-running series dominate the top spots

1st place is Meitantei Konan. It received approximately 10% of the votes.
Meitantei Konan is a mystery manga that began serialization in “Weekly Shounen Sunday” in 1994. The story follows high school detective Kudou Shinichi, who, after being poisoned by the Black Organization, transforms into an elementary school student. He then hides his true identity and solves cases as Edogawa Konan.
Readers shared comments such as, “It’s been serialized for over 30 years, with more than 100 tankobon volumes! I’m constantly curious about so many things: the mysteries of the Black Organization, the true identity of the mastermind, and whether Konan-kun will ever return to his original form as Shinichi.” Another reader mentioned, “The relationship with Kaitou Kid from Magic Kaito has also been revealed, and I’m super curious about it now!” The long-running nature of the series, with its intricate plot lines and expanding world that crosses over with other works, truly captivates fans. There were also comments like, “While I desperately want to know the ending, I also wish that the Meitantei Konan manga could continue forever,” reaffirming its immense popularity.

2nd place is HUNTERxHUNTER. It received approximately 9% of the votes.
HUNTERxHUNTER is an action manga that began serialization in “Weekly Shounen Jump” in 1998. The story starts with protagonist Gon Freecss embarking on a journey from his hometown to become a Hunter, just like his missing father, Gin, whom he hopes to find.
Many readers were drawn to the series by the sophisticated mind games utilizing Nen abilities, commenting, “The strategic battles, where strength doesn’t always guarantee victory, are fascinating.” Although the series is currently on hiatus, many supportive comments were received, such as, “I definitely want to see it through to completion!” and “I hope Togashi Yoshihiro-sensei continues the serialization at his own pace without overworking himself.”

3rd place is Bungou Stray Dogs. It received approximately 6% of the votes.
Bungou Stray Dogs is an action manga that has been serialized in “Young Ace” since 2012. It features ability-users, named after famous literary figures, who engage in conflicts set in Yokohama.
Since a significant portion of the manga has been adapted into anime, several readers noted, “I got curious about the continuation and started reading the original work, and was surprised by the shocking developments.” Another commented, “What awaits the members of the Armed Detective Agency—a happy ending or something else entirely…? I read on with bated breath.” With projects underway for the anime’s 10th anniversary in April 2026, the excitement for this series continues to build.

For Kimi no Koto ga Dai Dai Dai Dai Daisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo, one reader said, “As the title suggests, there are 100 destined partners, but not even half, or even a third, have appeared yet. In the anime, we’ve just passed ten, so when will all of them finally gather?”
Regarding Ballroom e Youkoso, a fan commented, “I was captivated by the beautiful growth of protagonist Tatara in the world of ballroom dancing. Even after eight years since the anime adaptation, I can’t forget it. In the original manga, new characters are continuously introduced, and the story is progressing in directions I never anticipated.”
For Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, a reader shared, “I fell in love with this series through the anime. The manga has just resumed serialization, and a sequel has also been greenlit, so I definitely want to keep following it.”
And for Chainsaw Man, which currently has a theatrical film running, a voter enthusiastically stated, “It’s a series where even charming characters can be eliminated from the story, creating a constant tension. The intricate web of foreshadowing is brilliant, and it continually betrays the readers’ expectations in a good way!”
