Here at Anime! Anime!, we conduct a reader survey twice a year titled the “Anime Adaptation Wishlist” series. In this popular poll, we ask readers to vote for works they would love to see animated from various categories: games, manga, and novels/light novels.
For the first half of 2025, the results are in for “Which Light Novel or Novel Do You Want to See Anime Adapted?” And for the second time in a row since the latter half of 2024, the top spot goes to Fushi Tantei Reido Kureha (published by SB Creative / GA Bunko)! We had the incredible opportunity to sit down with the author, Reishizuku-sensei, for an exclusive interview. We discussed his feelings on ranking at the top, his passion for creating the series, and, of course, his thoughts on an anime adaptation.

You can find the full results of the survey, including other highly-ranked titles like “Omagari-san to Maneki Neko” and “Majutsu-agari wa Erabitoru,” in this article.

An Interview with Reishizuku-sensei
――Congratulations on taking 1st place in the “Light Novel/Novel We Want to See Anime Adapted” survey for the first half of 2025! How do you feel about this achievement?
Achieving 1st place consecutively since the latter half of 2024 fills me with immense pride, truly feeling the passionate support from all the readers out there. It’s such an honor to know that out of countless amazing works, mine was the one most people wanted to see animated! I always write with an awareness of what would look great as an anime, so it makes me incredibly happy to know that vision is resonating with everyone.
And thanks to all of you, the production of Fushi Tantei Reido Kureha Volume 4 has been confirmed! Thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart!
――I’m sure you’ve seen reader comments published in Anime! Anime! articles and perhaps even received direct messages on X from your readers.
Continuous high rankings have undoubtedly generated significant reader response. What particularly memorable feedback have you received, and how do these reactions make you feel?
Upon hearing about the 1st place ranking, many readers expressed genuine congratulations, saying things like “That’s incredible!” or “Congratulations!” There were also quite a few comments along the lines of, “This is definitely getting an anime adaptation now…” (laughs).
What really left an impression on me was how much more attention the “Novels/Light Novels We Want to See Anime Adapted” ranking itself has garnered. The number of votes more than doubled, didn’t it? We also heavily promoted this in the marketing for Fushi Tantei Volume 3. It’s truly a blessing for the industry when there are more opportunities like this that draw attention to light novels. This wouldn’t have been possible without Anime! Anime!’s wonderful survey!
――Congratulations on the manga adaptation as well! What are your honest thoughts, and if you had to highlight one “manga-specific” appeal for your readers, what would it be?
Kusumoto Touka-sensei will be in charge of the artwork, and preparations for the manga adaptation are steadily progressing. I really wanted to see a manga adaptation happen, and I’d received so many requests for it, so I’m relieved and delighted that it’s coming true for Fushi Tantei.
Kusumoto Touka-sensei’s art style is incredibly adorable, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the characters move and express themselves in manga form! In the original novels, the illustrations are limited, and many readers often feel like “there aren’t enough pictures of my favorite characters, I need more supply!” But with the manga adaptation, you’ll get to see plenty of them, so that’s definitely the highlight. We’re currently reviewing character designs, and they are just so cute… I can’t wait to show them to everyone! Please look forward to it!
――The latest Volume 3, released this summer, really brought out more of the characters’ charm. We’ve already seen readers saying, “I can’t wait for the next volume.” Could you once again share your thoughts on this series?
It seems like readers truly enjoyed the quirky and unique new characters, and fans of the existing characters (especially Miyakawa Ai-chan) were particularly delighted (laughs). Volume 3, in particular, ended in a way that leaves you craving for more, so I’ve received many comments like “I want to read the continuation soon.” Volume 4 is now confirmed for production, and I’m pouring my heart into writing it.

As a light novel, as a mystery, and as the Fushi Tantei Reido Kureha series, I’m working to make it as entertaining as possible for you all, so I’d be thrilled if you could pre-order it while it’s fresh in your mind and await its arrival…!
With the continuation of the original novel series and the upcoming manga adaptation, it’s truly exciting to see the world of the work expand!
――Returning to an earlier question, could you share your thoughts on an “anime adaptation” once more?
As many people have shown with their strong support, I feel that this work has many elements that would shine in an anime adaptation, such as the characters and action scenes. Even though I wrote the novel myself, I constantly find myself wishing, “I want to see this as a video!” Please continue to support me until an anime adaptation becomes a reality, and even after it happens… (laughs)!
――What are your aspirations for the “second half of 2025” survey, and do you have a message for your readers?
Thanks to the enthusiastic support from all of you, Fushi Tantei Reido Kureha has been granted these wonderful opportunities. Of course, please vote for this work, but also actively cast your votes for your own favorite works and the ones you are personally pushing! If the ranking itself becomes more lively, it will undoubtedly create more opportunities for novels and light novels to gain attention. This could even lead to increased sales for bookstores and other retailers! So, it’s a win-win situation all around, please join in!
