Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Special Program to Air on ABEMA
On May 16, 2025, when the TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto takes a broadcast break, a special program titled “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto ABEMA Tokuban” will be exclusively broadcast for free on ABEMA starting from 23:00 JST.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, an anime based on the light novel of the same name by Hinatsu Natsu, is a palace mystery entertainment series set in the rear palace. It follows Maomao, a young woman who becomes a pharmacist and “poison taster,” using her extensive knowledge of poisons and medicines to solve various difficult cases occurring within the palace walls one after another. The series has also been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines, “Big Gangan” (Square Enix) and “Sunday GX” (Shougakukan), with the cumulative total of the series exceeding 40 million copies in circulation.
The TV anime first aired for two consecutive cours starting in October 2023. It gained significant popularity for its detective story featuring Maomao, a girl with an unusual fondness for poison, and the comical interactions between Maomao and the enigmatic rear palace administrator, Jinshi. The series even topped X (formerly Twitter) trends. Since January 2025, the second season has been airing for two consecutive cours, generating even more excitement among fans.
To coincide with the broadcast break of the TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto on May 16th, a special program, “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto ABEMA Tokuban,” is confirmed for exclusive free broadcast on ABEMA at 23:00 JST. This program will be Kusuriya no Hitorigoto‘s first-ever special featuring only male cast members. Ootsuka Takeo-san, who voices Jinshi; Konishi Katsuyuki-san, who voices Gaoshun; and Tachibana Tatsuya-san, who voices Basen, are scheduled to appear, along with the cast member for a new character who will be announced later.
What to Expect on the Special Program
During the program, the cast will look back on the second season, highlighting scenes that generated the most excitement in the ABEMA comment section through the “ABEMA Comment Ranking.” Furthermore, taking the place of the poison taster Maomao, the male cast members will challenge a ranking check segment titled “Even Without Being Maomao, I Can Tell! Ranking Battle!” Which scene will claim the number one spot in the comment ranking? And what will be the outcome of the ranking battle?
Expectations are high for the cast members’ look-back talk and the heated battle segments!
TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Season 2 is currently broadcasting for free every Friday at 24:00 JST on the “ABEMA Anime Channel.” The latest episode can be enjoyed for free for one week after broadcast.
