The TV anime adaptation of `Dekin no Mogura`, a manga by `EGUCHI Natsumi`, creator of `Hoozuki no Reitetsu`, is set to begin broadcasting on July 7, 2025. Recently, the second promotional video for the series was released, along with details about the opening and ending theme songs. Additionally, two new cast members have been announced: `TOYOSAKI Aki` will voice Maggie-kun, and `MAFIA Kajita` will voice Sukekiyo. Comments from both cast members have also been received.
`Dekin no Mogura`, serialized in Kodansha’s “Morning” magazine, is a “supernatural x comedy” brought to you by `EGUCHI Natsumi`, well-known for `Hoozuki no Reitetsu`. It uniquely depicts the strange and comical mysteries of “this world,” where “humans” and “spirits” intersect.
“Self-proclaimed sennin” (immortal mountain hermit) Mogura, whose real name is `HYAKUAN Momugi`, has been banned from the otherworld for some reason. He aims to return there by collecting the “lights” held by ghosts in a lantern. Apparently, encountering him allows one to see strange things. The story of this peculiar encounter between Mogura and university students `MAKIKURI Ken` and `KIRIHARA Yaeko` kicks off a truly “undyingly” mysterious tale.
As the July broadcast date approaches, the second promotional video has now been unveiled. Centering around the suspicious figure of Mogura, who calls himself a sennin, the PV introduces a cast of mysterious and quirky characters, including enigmatic individuals and even bakeneko (monster cats), hinting at the weird and wonderful occurrences to come.
Information regarding the theme songs has also been revealed. The opening theme will be “Kamidanomi” by syudou, and the ending theme will be “Ken Sou feat. Aile The Shota” by `Shiino Mirin`. You can get a taste of syudou’s “Kamidanomi” in the newly released PV. Both artists have also provided comments about their respective songs.
Furthermore, two additional cast members and their characters have been announced. `TOYOSAKI Aki` will voice Maggie-kun, a red panda spirit who appears at Ken’s part-time job at a 100-yen shop, and `MAFIA Kajita` will play Sukekiyo, the manager of that same 100-yen shop. Both cast members shared their enthusiasm and comments about taking on these roles.
In other exciting news, an original art exhibition titled “Eguchi Natsumi Gagyou Juugoshuunen Kinen Gen gaten ~Ano Yo to Kono Yo no Hazama nite~” (Eguchi Natsumi 15th Anniversary Art Exhibition ~In the Space Between This World and the Other World~) is scheduled to be held from August 22 to September 7 at the Yurakuchou Marui 8F Event Space “SPACE7・8”.
The exhibition will primarily feature works from `Hoozuki no Reitetsu` and `Dekin no Mogura`, alongside pieces from Eguchi-sensei’s debut work, short stories, and even the familiar doodles from the official SNS accounts. Approximately 150 to 200 color manuscripts and original drawings are expected to be on display. A timeline and a message corner for Eguchi-sensei will also be set up. Fans won’t want to miss this, as goods featuring newly drawn illustrations are also planned for sale.
The TV anime `Dekin no Mogura`, based on the manga by `EGUCHI Natsumi` of `Hoozuki no Reitetsu` fame, will begin broadcasting on July 7, 2025. Fans are eagerly awaiting further updates!
Comments from Artists and Cast
syudou
As someone who read “Hoozuki no Reitetsu” back in my student days, it is truly an honor to be involved with a work by `EGUCHI Natsumi`-sensei this time.
“Dekin no Mogura” features various characters, and I felt that every single one of them is living and struggling to find happiness. I, too, live that way every day. While such appearances can sometimes seem unsightly, I also feel they are very human and beautiful. “Kamidanomi” was created with that universal longing for happiness as its theme.
I sincerely pray that this song and “Dekin no Mogura” reach many people.
Shiino Mirin
I believe I am someone who enjoys a relatively large number of anime works out there, and `Eguchi`-sensei’s previous work, “Hoozuki no Reitetsu,” is one of my favorites. It feels like a dream to be entrusted with the ending theme for the new series, “Dekin no Mogura.” This work is incredibly, deathly funny from its premise to its progression, but its charm also lies in the many important perspectives on living life that it offers, extending beyond the simple framework of a comedy. While considering what kind of song would be suitable for the work’s unique world view, I interpreted the scattered philosophies in my own way and wrote “Ken Sou.” Aile The Shota, who collaborated with me this time, has wonderful groove and vitality, and I believe we formed a very good tag team in packaging the song to fit the world view. I hope this song can help “Dekin no Mogura” reach many people. Thank you kindly.
Aile The Shota
I am happy and honored to have been able to sing the words and sounds delicately woven by `Shiino Mirin`-san within the world of “Dekin no Mogura,” which is set apart from the mundane world.
The common thread connecting the work and the real world is “how to face ambiguity.”
While working together on the production, I explored and expressed the meaning behind `Aile The Shota`’s singing.
I sincerely look forward to the song being widely loved along with the work.

Q1. Charm of this work
Once you notice it, there’s no turning back – a mysterious world view where countless non-human beings appear. Centered around Mogura-san, who spends a long time in the space between this world and the otherworld, the story depicts the various lives of people. While wondering if it’s okay to peek into it, the story I read driven by curiosity delves into the candid inner workings of human hearts. It’s a great honor to be involved in this work with tremendous drawing power, spun by `Eguchi`-sensei.
Q2. Enthusiasm for performing the role
Receiving the role of a red panda spirit, such a catchy and thrilling part, was a first in my life. While Maggie-kun has a very cute appearance, I focused on realism rather than performing him in a fancy way. Even though he’s a ghost, Maggie-kun is very easily scared. I’m giving it my all to play him as completely terrified while still trying to intimidate. Please look forward to it.
Sukekiyo CV: MAFIA Kajita
Q1. Charm of this work
`Eguchi`-sensei’s intellectually rich humor is abundantly incorporated, and the eccentric yet strangely relatable characters’ interactions are deeply flavorful. As a gag manga that excels in enjoying clever dialogue, it is very high-level. On the other hand, the style that confronts human karma head-on, even aspects one might want to turn away from, makes this work a unique and special story.
Q2. Enthusiasm for performing the role
Although I am not a professional actor, I was personally nominated by none other than `Eguchi`-sensei to play Sukekiyo. When she heard my voice on the radio, she apparently thought it fit the image of Sukekiyo, so I’m approaching the voice recording with that in mind while preparing for the role. In fact, I had been reading the original manga even before receiving the offer, and Sukekiyo was a memorable character, so I was happy, but the pressure was also great to deliver a performance that could bring his characteristic “rage act” to life.
