Happy Birthday Miyano Mamoru-san! Who is Your Favorite Character? Will ‘Bungou Stray Dogs” Dazai Osamu Rank First for the 3rd Year in a Row?! 1st Place is “Just When You Think He’s Messing Around…” <2025 Edition>
To celebrate Miyano Mamoru-san’s birthday, Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who is your favorite character he has voiced?” for the third consecutive year. We now present the results.
Miyano Mamoru-san made his voice acting debut in the 2000s. He has been awarded numerous accolades, including the Leading Actor Award at the 2nd Seiyuu Awards, the Supporting Actor Award and the Singing Award (as part of a unit) at the 6th, the Singing Award (individual) at the 8th, and the Influencer Award at the 14th, given to the voice actor who made the most impression on social media.
In Spring 2025, he appeared in anime such as 『LAZARUS』, 『TO BE HERO X』, and 『Nazo toki wa Dinaa no Ato de』, as well as the live-action film 『PaRipi Koumei THE MOVIE』. As an artist, he is set to release the live BD & DVD “MAMORU MIYANO LIVE TOUR 2024-2025 ～DRESSING!～” on June 4th.
Therefore, to celebrate Miyano Mamoru-san’s birthday, we conducted a reader survey titled “Who is your favorite character he has voiced?” for the third consecutive year. We received 923 responses during the survey period from May 25th to May 29th.
The gender ratio was approximately 25 percent male and 75 percent female, with a higher number of female respondents. The age demographics were roughly 45 percent for those 19 and under, and about 20 percent each for those in their 20s and 30s.

■『Bungou Stray Dogs』’s Dazai Osamu Takes the Top Spot with Double the Votes!
1st Place
1st place goes to 『Bungou Stray Dogs』’s Dazai Osamu. With approximately 24 percent support, he holds the top spot for the third year in a row.
Readers commented on the many facets of the character. One fan said, “He usually acts goofy, but he carries a tragic past that no ordinary person could ever bear. His occasional glimpses of darkness in his performance, revealing a hint of that depth, completely captivated me.” Another shared, “He perfectly portrays Dazai Osamu’s clownish charm and unfathomable darkness. It’s amazing how he plays the character at different ages – 15, 18, 22 – while maintaining a consistent core beneath it all, slightly changing his vocal nuances. His range is astonishing.”
“Just when you think he’s messing around, his voice suddenly changes and turns serious – it’s irresistible!” His performance truly brings out the mysterious appeal of Dazai. Incidentally, 『Bungou Stray Dogs』 is currently moving forward with various projects leading up to its 10th anime anniversary in April 2026.
2nd Place
2nd place is Ichinose Tokiya from 『Uta no☆Purinsu-sama♪』. With approximately 10 percent support, he remains at 2nd place for the third consecutive year.
Comments poured in, praising his role not just in the games and anime, but also his live performances. Fans said, “He used to be a lone wolf, but now he’s in a position to calmly bring the group together. I’ve been drawn to the self-disciplined Tokiya for many years.” Another mentioned, “He’s an idol whose forte is ‘vocal,’ truly a character only Miyano Mamoru-san could play! In live performances, Miyano-san and Tokiya seem to respect and elevate each other, always showing us new horizons.”
His dedication is also a key part of his appeal: “Tokiya’s perfect singing ability isn’t just natural talent; it’s actually the fruit of his hard work. I think because Miyano-san has accumulated experience as an actor since childhood, he’s able to bring that kind of conviction to the role.” Currently, the theatrical film 『TABOO NIGHT XXXX』 focusing on the senior idols is showing.
3rd Place
3rd place is Urutoraman Zero from 『Daikaijuu Batoru Urutora Ginga Densetsu THE MOVIE』. With approximately 6 percent support, the top 3 are the same as last year.
This long-loved hero ranked high again this year. Fans shared comments like, “It’s amazing how he’s been fighting on the front lines since his first appearance in 2009, constantly gaining new power! It’s moving to see Zero, the son of Seven, overcome countless hardships and now guiding his juniors.” Another fan expressed, “I love his spirited lines like ‘I’m Seven’s son!’ and ‘You’re 20,000 years too early!’ His personality, which combines passion and kindness, perfectly matches Miyano-san’s voice, and you feel a sense of relief when Zero rushes to the scene.” Many comments also cited Zero as the first Ultraman character they became fans of, making this ranking special as he celebrates his 15th anniversary.

For 『Boku no Hi-roo Akademia THE MOVIE Yua Nekusuto』’s Jurio Gandi-ni, a fan said, “He’s a butler serving a wealthy family and you’d expect polite speech, but he’s surprisingly sharp-tongued, calling Deku ‘the hero kid-sama.’ Even though he’s an original movie character, I was happy to see him briefly appear in the TV anime Season 7.”
Regarding 『DEATH NOTE』’s Yagami Raito, a reader commented, “His ability to switch between portraying Kira, the mass murderer, and Light, the good-natured young man after losing his memories, is brilliant! His triumphant laughter when his plans succeed and his screams when he’s cornered are unforgettable!!”
For 『Nazo toki wa Dinaa no Ato de』’s Kazamatsuri Kyouichirou, a fan shared, “He’s a detective but also the son of a car manufacturer’s CEO, and he flaunts it. He tries to act cool but his deduction skills are useless, making him a bit troublesome. But the fact that you know he’s not a bad person at heart is typical of him.”
And for 『Zonbi Rando Saga』’s Tatsumi Koutarou, who has a theatrical film coming soon, a fan voted with this comment: “He’s a quirky, entertaining producer with the outlandish idea of turning zombies into idols. Yet, he harbors a strong belief that he reveals to no one else. That gap is captivating, and Miyano-san’s performance towards the end truly sent shivers down my spine.”
This year’s survey featured a wide range of characters from the 2000s to the 2020s. Among them, many characters from titles celebrating milestones ranked highly.
