As the Spring 2025 anime season reaches its peak, anticipation is already soaring for the new series set to debut in Summer 2025. This summer’s lineup boasts a vibrant selection, featuring adaptations of major hit manga, exciting sequels and remakes of popular series, and even intriguing original works. So, which titles are capturing the most attention from Anime! Anime! readers?
To find out, Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Which Summer 2025 Anime Are You Most Excited For?” The poll was open from June 1st to June 7th, gathering responses from 567 participants. The demographics were quite balanced, with approximately 45 percent male and 55 percent female. Regarding age, roughly 45 percent were 19 years old or younger, while both the 30s and 40s age groups accounted for about 15 percent each.

Love, Thrills, and Emotion! Don’t Miss the Summer 2025 Anime Lineup
1st Place
Claiming the top spot is Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Season 2. Securing approximately 9 percent of the votes.
This anime is based on the popular manga serialized in “Young Gangan” (also known by its English title, *My Dress-Up Darling*). It’s a heartwarming romantic comedy centered around Gojou Wakana, a high school boy aspiring to become a *kashirashi* (master doll head maker) for Hina dolls, and Kitagawa Marin, a popular girl in his class. Their bond deepens as they connect through their shared passion for cosplay.
Looking back at the first season, one fan commented, “Seeing Marin-chan work hard to express her love for her favorite characters through cosplay, and Wakana-kun dedicating himself to making costumes to match her enthusiasm… just watching their pure and serious approach to what they love warmed my heart.” Many viewers echoed this sentiment of cheering on the duo.
For the upcoming sequel, excitement is high for new developments. Comments included, “What kind of changes await the relationship between Gojou-kun and Marin-chan, who are so close it feels like they’re dating but aren’t quite there yet?” and “I’m also looking forward to seeing more interactions with their classmates, which haven’t been featured much before!”
2nd Place
Coming in at second place is Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu. Securing approximately 7 percent of the votes.
Serialized in “Young Ace UP,” this series is a captivating youth horror. It follows Tsujinaka Yoshiki, a high school student residing in Kubitachi Village, as he navigates daily life with Hikaru, a mysterious entity who has seemingly replaced his childhood friend, Kido Hikaru. As their days unfold, Yoshiki finds himself increasingly embroiled in strange and unsettling incidents.
Voters were drawn to the atmospheric preview videos. One fan shared, “The PV mysteriously depicts the presence of this ‘something’ that isn’t the real Hikaru, while the scenery of the tranquil village and the beautiful summer sky are shown with stunning detail. It was chilling yet so beautiful I couldn’t look away. I definitely want this duo’s story to send shivers down my spine this summer.” Another comment highlighted the timing: “Bringing the broadcast period to summer shows how serious they are about this project. I’m really eager to see how the anime expresses that unsettling atmosphere as their everyday life is gradually encroached upon.” This perfect timing for a spooky summer tale helped it climb high in the rankings.
3rd Place
Sharing the third spot are Dandadan (Season 2) and Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun 2 (Season 2 Part 2), finishing with a difference of only a few votes from second place.
Dandadan is a battle action series featuring Momo, a high school girl with the blood of a spirit medium, and Okarun, a high school boy who is an occult fanatic, as they face off against strange phenomena. Voters were particularly impressed by the animation quality. Comments included, “I was overwhelmed by the vividly colored visuals of the first season. The PV for the second season looks like it has movie-level quality and promises to amaze us again,” and “Besides the story, I’m also keeping an eye on the directorial sense. I want to get completely lost in the visual beauty of the opening and ending sequences.” The anime’s stunning visuals are clearly a major point of interest.
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun 2 is a continuation of the popular series starring Hanako-kun, known as “Hanako-san of the Toilet,” one of the school’s Seven Mysteries. This new installment serves as the second part of Season 2, following the episodes that aired from January to March 2025.
Fans expressed delight at the speedy return: “To think we’d get a new installment just three months later! I’m curious about the appearance of new Seven Mysteries, and I also believe we might get to see a more serious side of Hanako-kun.” Another voter commented, “The first part was very well-done, so I hope the second part maintains that momentum. Personally, I’m most interested in what the future holds for his assistant, Nene-chan.” Expectations are high for both new mysteries and deeper character exploration.
Introducing Other Comments!
For Tougen Anki, one comment highlighted, “The world-building, which cleverly incorporates elements of Momotarou, is truly unique. The action scenes where characters transform their own blood into weapons to fight also seem perfect for animation. Since the original manga has over 20 volumes, I’m curious to see how much will be adapted.”
Regarding CITY THE ANIMATION, a voter shared, “This is Kyoto Animation’s first completely new title in 6 years. I was incredibly moved by the visuals; it felt like the color pages from the original manga had just started moving! It perfectly captures Arawi Keiichi-san’s distinctive world.”
About Jigoku Sensei Nuubee, a nostalgic fan commented, “To think an anime adaptation of ‘Nuubee’ is returning in the Reiwa era! With Okiayu Ryoutarou-san confirmed to reprise his role as Nuubee and Morikawa Tomoyuki-san returning as Tamamo Kyousuke, I’m so excited to see what kind of strange incidents they’ll face this time.”
And for the original title Turkey!, a voter mentioned, “An anime about bowling is quite rare, and it’s exciting news for us bowlers. Lately, more bowling alleys have been closing down, so I sincerely hope this work can be the catalyst to revitalize the industry.” These diverse comments show the wide range of anticipation for the summer season.
The results of this survey reveal that over half of the top 10 titles are sequels. This strongly suggests that the high expectations and trust fans have in already beloved works are directly reflected in the voting. Of course, several new titles also made it into the rankings, indicating that this summer is shaping up to be a truly unmissable season for anime fans.
