Get Ready! Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals Season 2 Announced!
The journey for Kouichi Haimawari and the other illegal heroes isn’t over yet! Following the thrilling conclusion of the first season of the anime **Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals**, an exciting announcement dropped: a second season is officially in the works! Fans can look forward to more action and deeper dives into the prequel story, with the new season set to premiere sometime in **2026**. A special teaser visual was also revealed alongside the announcement, giving us a peek into what’s coming next.
Everything We Know So Far
The first season of **Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals**, which is also known by fans as My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, premiered in Spring 2025. Produced by the talented team at Bones Films, the season ran for a total of 13 episodes. For those watching outside of Japan, Crunchyroll provided simulcast access with subtitles and later an English dub, making it easy for international fans to follow along with the unfolding events.
Delving Into the World Before Deku
Set before the main events of the hit series **Boku no Hero Academia**, **Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals** gives us a different perspective on the world of quirks and heroes. In a society filled with superhumans, it’s tough to stand out, especially when the spotlight is firmly on the professional heroes who are legally allowed to use their powers publicly. Our protagonist, Kouichi Haimawari, has a seemingly modest quirk called “glide,” which keeps him grounded. He grew up wanting to be a hero but came to accept that he might just admire them from afar. Still, Kouichi found joy in using his quirk for simple, everyday good deeds, like helping neighbors.
However, Kouichi’s quiet life takes a dramatic turn when he’s unexpectedly rescued by “Knuckleduster,” a vigilante – an illegal hero operating outside the law. Seeing potential in Kouichi, Knuckleduster pulls him into the shadowy world of illegal heroism. Together, they begin tracking down the source of a dangerous drug known as “Trigger.” This substance has the power to amplify a user’s quirk to incredible levels, but at the severe cost of their rationality. The story follows Kouichi as he navigates this dangerous path, choosing to embrace his new identity as a vigilante to prevent crimes from happening in the first place.
The Roots of the Story: The Manga
The anime is based on the spin-off manga created by the duo Furuhashi and Betten Court. Their work was serialized in the web magazine Shounen Jump+ from September 2016 until May 2022. Japanese publisher Shueisha compiled the chapters into 15 volumes, with the final volume released in July 2022. For English-speaking manga readers, VIZ Media licensed the series back in 2018, and they released the 15th and final volume in October 2023, allowing fans worldwide to enjoy the full story.
