Get ready for the Summer anime Jigoku Sensei Nuu-bee! The synopsis and advance scene cuts for Episode 1, titled “Tsukumono Ashi no Mushi”, airing on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, have been released. The very first broadcast will be a special 1-hour event, showing two episodes back-to-back. Plus, ahead of the premiere, the non-credit opening video, featuring the striking phrase “Akuryou Taisan!”, is also here.

About the Series
An occultic hero action manga, Jigoku Sensei Nuu-bee is originally written by Makura Shou and illustrated by Okano Takeshi. It ran in “Weekly Shounen Jump” from 1993 to 1999 and is a massive hit, boasting a cumulative circulation of 29 million copies. This new anime is based on that beloved work.

The stories, which draw upon school ghost stories and urban legends, thrilled readers while also showcasing the brave actions of the spiritual power teacher, Nueno Meisuke—affectionately known as “Nuu-bee”-sensei. Risking his own life, Nuu-bee-sensei defends his students from the dangers of yokai and evil spirits, a heroic image that has resonated with fans across generations. The series has a history of adaptations, including a TV anime from 1996 to 1997, theatrical anime films, and OVAs. It even received a live-action TV drama adaptation in 2014, starring Maruyama Ryuhei.
Episode 1 “Tsukumono Ashi no Mushi” Synopsis

Nueno Meisuke, affectionately known as Nuu-bee-sensei, arrives as a new teacher at Dounmori Elementary. While he might appear a little unreliable at times, he is actually the only teacher in all of Japan who possesses spiritual powers. One ordinary day, an unusual change comes over Tateno Hiro, a student in Nuu-bee-sensei‘s class. Hiro finds himself unable to control his anger, acting completely unlike himself.

His classmates grow worried about Hiro. Sensing the strange phenomenon, Nuu-bee-sensei becomes aware of a certain yokai lurking nearby.
Opening Theme & Video
Speaking of the opening, the non-credit OP video has also been released ahead of the broadcast! The video is packed with spooky, horror-filled scenes, including moments revealing the energetic students of Dounmori Elementary alongside the yokai lurking right by their side. All this unfolds set to the catchy phrase “Akuryou Taisan!” (Begone, evil spirits!) from the lyrics of the opening theme, “P0WER-Akuryou Taisan-“, performed by -Shin Tenchi Kaibyaku Shuudan- ZIGZAG. Be sure to keep an eye out for characters like Nuu-bee-sensei, Tamamo Kyousuke, and Yukime, who are desperately trying to keep the students safe.
Broadcast & Streaming Details
The first episode of the Summer anime Jigoku Sensei Nuu-bee, “Tsukumono Ashi no Mushi”, will premiere on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11:15 PM JST. This initial broadcast on the TV Asahi national network “IMAnimation W” block will be a special 1-hour event showing two episodes consecutively. Starting from the following week, episodes will air every Wednesday at 11:45 PM JST on the same block (excluding some regions). The second cour is scheduled to begin broadcasting in January 2026.
For those on BS, it will begin airing on BS Asahi every Saturday at 1:00 AM JST starting from July 5th.
Regarding streaming, advance distribution will be available on ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Anime Houdai after the terrestrial broadcast ends. Starting Saturday, July 5th, episodes will become available sequentially on various streaming services from 12:15 AM JST every Saturday late night. *Please note that only for the first episode, the streaming on Saturday, July 5th will start at 11:45 PM JST.
ABEMA will offer a free broadcast of the latest episode and free streaming for one week. The first episode special will have a free broadcast on Wednesday, July 2nd, from 12:00 AM JST (effectively Thursday midnight). Subsequent episodes will have free broadcasts every Wednesday night from 1:00 AM JST (effectively Thursday early morning). Additionally, one week of free streaming for the latest episode will be available every Saturday from 12:15 AM JST, starting three days after the terrestrial broadcast.
