Get ready for a vibrant summer celebration! The TV anime Gooruden Kamuy is teaming up with the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri, one of Tohoku’s three great festivals held annually from August 2nd to 7th. This marks the third exciting collaboration with a traditional Japanese summer festival, and it includes a special POP UP SHOP featuring exclusive merchandise. On top of that, starting July 29th, a collaboration version of Aomori’s beloved long-selling product, “Igirisu Toosuto,” will hit the shelves!
About Gooruden Kamuy
Gooruden Kamuy is a TV anime based on the mega-hit manga by Noda Satoru, originally serialized in “Weekly Young Jump.” The story follows Sugimoto Saichi, a hero of the Russo-Japanese War known as “Immortal Sugimoto,” and his Ainu companion, Ashiripa. Together, they embark on a thrilling survival race surrounding a vast hoard of gold nuggets stolen from the Ainu people.
The original manga won major awards, including the “Manga Taishou 2016” and the Manga Grand Prize at the “22nd Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.” With 31 volumes in total, the series has surpassed 29 million copies in circulation and continues to capture the hearts of many fans even after its eight-year run concluded. The TV anime series began airing in April 2018 and has expanded since, with the final chapter of the anime adaptation currently underway. The series has also seen a successful live-action film adaptation, which is set to continue with a second drama series following the first installment.

About Aomori Nebuta Matsuri
The Aomori Nebuta Matsuri is one of the renowned “Tohoku San Dai Matsuri” (Tohoku’s Three Great Festivals), taking place annually from August 2nd to 7th in Aomori. The festival features the parade of large floats called “Ningyou Nebuta,” followed by dancers known as “Haneto,” who dance through the streets chanting “Rassera! Rassera!”
Collaboration Details
This third collaboration between Gooruden Kamuy and a traditional Japanese summer festival brings exciting new visuals. A collaboration visual created by Takenami Hiroo, the 7th generation Nebuta Master, has been revealed. Additionally, adorable “chibi character illustrations” depicting Sugimoto and his companions dressed in Haneto costumes have been created.

During the festival, special “Mae Nebuta” (front nebuta) floats featuring Sugimoto and Ashiripa will be paraded and exhibited.
POP UP SHOP Information
To celebrate the collaboration, a POP UP SHOP will open at the Aomori-ken Kankou Bussankan ASPAM (Aomori Prefecture Tourism Products Hall ASPAM) from August 2nd to August 31st. For those who can’t make it to Aomori, online sales will also be available starting at 12:00 PM on August 2nd via Collection.jc. Details about the exclusive merchandise will be announced at a later date.
Igirisu Toosuto Collaboration
Adding to the excitement, a collaborative version of Aomori’s long-time favorite “Igirisu Toosuto” will go on sale starting July 29th. This special edition features Furano-grown melon jam and melon-flavored whipped cream, presented in a unique package adorned with the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri collaboration “chibi character illustrations.” Look for the “Igirisu Toosuto (Double Melon)” at supermarkets, convenience stores, drugstores, and the Aomori-ken Kankou Bussankan ASPAM throughout the Tohoku region. It’s the perfect snack to enjoy alongside the Nebuta festivities!
