Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (also known as My Dress-Up Darling) is a “cosplay x kyun” story based on the manga by Fukuda Shinichi, serialized in Square Enix’s “Young Gangan” and “Manga UP!”. The series has surpassed a cumulative 13 million copies in circulation. The story follows Gojou Wakana, a high school boy aiming to become a “kashirashi” (a craftsman who makes the heads of Hina dolls) who is out of touch with popular trends and struggles to fit in with his class, and Kitagawa Marin, a popular girl who is the center of attention. These two polar opposites deepen their connection through cosplay after a fateful encounter.
The TV anime adaptation is produced by CloverWorks, directed by Shinohara Keisuke. Naota Hina voices Kitagawa Marin, and Ishige Shouya voices Gojou Wakana. Season 2 is the much-anticipated sequel, arriving approximately three years after Season 1 aired from January to March 2022. In Season 2, Marin still has tons of cosplay she wants to do and costumes she wants to create with Wakana. Their world expands further through interactions with their classmates and meeting new cosplay companions. And will Marin’s heart-pounding feelings for Wakana finally make some progress?
