*Dandadan*: “Oharai daaaaaaa!” Seriously Produced with Taniyama Kisho on Vocals! Lyric Video for Episode 18 Insert Song “Hunting Soul” Released
TV anime *Dandadan* is currently captivating audiences, broadcasting every Thursday at 0:26 AM on the MBS/TBS network of 28 stations as part of the “Super Animeism TURBO” block. Fans are buzzing as a lyric video for “Hunting Soul,” performed by the enigmatic band HAYASii and featured prominently in the 18th episode, has just been released!
“Hunting Soul” boasts an impressive team behind its creation: Nagai Seiichi handled the lyrics, composition, and arrangement, with Ushio Kensuke taking on the crucial role of producer. The powerful vocals were delivered by the talented Taniyama Kisho. The instrumental lineup is equally stellar, featuring guitar legend Marty Friedman, the explosive Chargeeeeee… on drums, and the versatile Wakazaemon on bass. While it remains to be seen if this song can truly perform an exorcism, it was certainly produced with immense passion and energy, clearly designed to make a significant impact.

*Dandadan* is an exhilarating occult battle and coming-of-age story based on the highly popular manga by Ryuu Yukinobu. Serialized on Shueisha’s “Shounen Jump+” manga app, the series has already sold over 10 million copies, a testament to its widespread appeal. The narrative follows Ayase Momo, a high school girl born into a family of spirit mediums, and her quirky classmate Takakura Ken, affectionately known as Okarun, who is a passionate occult enthusiast. Their lives take an extraordinary turn after they encounter overwhelming supernatural phenomena beyond their wildest comprehension. This encounter grants them both hidden powers and cursed abilities. With these newfound strengths, they confront encroaching anomalies while also getting delightfully entangled in a fated romance.
The TV anime adaptation, featuring Wakayama Shion as Ayase Momo (Momo) and Hanae Natsuki as Takakura Ken (Okarun), gained significant popularity during its thrilling first season, which aired from October to December 2024. For the much-anticipated second season, Yamashiro Fuuga serves as director alongside Abel Gongora, with animation production continuing under the renowned Science SARU studio, ensuring the same high quality and dynamic visuals.

HAYASii, who made their impactful appearance in the 18th episode, are the talented musicians summoned by Hoshiko and Manjirou with a crucial mission: to exorcise the menacing Evil Eye residing within Jiji. While they don’t play conventional *hayashi* instruments traditionally used in Japanese festivals, Hoshiko-san describes them as a band whose unique music possesses the extraordinary power to resonate even in the spirit world, the *Kakuriyo*.
Taniyama Kisho-san, who lent his powerful voice as HAYASii’s vocalist for “Hunting Soul,” shared his thoughts on the song: “How should I put it, it’s like we’re seriously fooling around. When it comes to homages or parodies, if the creators aren’t fully committed and just grin through it, the audience picks up on that and loses interest. It’s only when you pour your heart into it that people can truly laugh and enjoy it. So, from the music production to the vocals, I believe everyone involved feels a strong sense of accomplishment, having created something that truly resonates with a specific artistic intention. For my part, I’ve done everything I can, so now it’s up to all of you to have as much fun with it as possible!”
“Hunting Soul” is guaranteed to make you want to headbang along, just like Momo, Okarun, and Aira! Digital distribution for the track also begins on August 9th at midnight, so be sure to blast it and passionately sing along to “Oharai daaaaaaa!”
TV anime *Dandadan* Season 2 is currently airing nationwide simultaneously every Thursday at 0:26 AM on the MBS/TBS network of 28 stations under the “Super Animeism TURBO” block.

Q1. Could you tell us about the charm of this work?
This work is based on a hugely popular manga that boasts an exceptional balance between comedy and serious themes. It was only natural for it to be adapted into an anime, and I imagine there was considerable pressure and high hurdles to overcome. However, the production has effortlessly cleared those obstacles, and that’s precisely where its charm lies – it never feels forced or misses the mark, which is truly wonderful.
Q2. Please share your thoughts on performing “Hunting Soul” as HAYASii.
How should I put it, it’s like seriously fooling around? When it comes to homages or parodies, if the creators are just half-hearted and laughing through it, the audience picks up on that and loses interest. It’s only when you pour your heart into it that people can truly laugh and enjoy it. So, from the music production to the vocals, I believe everyone involved feels a strong sense of accomplishment, having created something that truly resonates with a specific artistic intention.
