Disney Classics and Live-Action Hit to Air on Kinyou Roadshow!
Disney’s animated masterpiece, Sleeping Beauty, is set to grace our screens on September 12th on NTV’s “Kinyou Roadshow”. The following week, on September 19th, the live-action film Maleficent, which tells the story from the perspective of the iconic villainess Maleficent, who calls herself the “Mistress of All Evil”, will also be broadcast. Kicking off the September 12th broadcast will be Toy Story That Time Forgot, a thrilling continuation of the Toy Story 3 narrative.
First up on September 12th, Sleeping Beauty holds a special place in Disney history as the last fairy tale film personally overseen by Walt Disney himself. It was a grand project, taking a remarkable six years from its inception to its theatrical release. This film also broke new ground as the first animated movie in the world to be produced using 70mm film.
The original story for Sleeping Beauty stems from ancient European fairy tales, sometimes known as “Little Briar Rose” or “The Sleeping Princess”, found in collections by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. Disney’s adaptation brought a modern flair, crafting a unique and captivating narrative. Pouring in the largest production budget and personnel for a Disney film at the time, this movie, created over 60 years ago, boasts an astonishing level of quality, truly standing as a landmark in animation cinema.
Adventure Continues in Toy Story That Time Forgot
Before the main feature, viewers will also be treated to Toy Story That Time Forgot, a delightful spin-off that continues the adventures of Woody and his companions after the events of Toy Story 3. It beautifully portrays their new life with their new owner.
In this story, Bonnie, the toys’ new owner, takes Woody, Buzz, and their friends to a playdate at a friend’s house. There, Woody and the gang stumble upon a mysterious “dinosaur world” inhabited by toy dinosaurs who love to battle. Caught in the midst of this prehistoric conflict, will Woody and his toy companions be able to safely return to Bonnie’s home? This adventure introduces a host of unique new characters alongside our beloved familiar faces.
Maleficent: The Story from the Villain’s Perspective
On September 19th, prepare to delve into Maleficent, the live-action film that retells the classic Sleeping Beauty story from the viewpoint of its iconic villainess, the evil fairy Maleficent. This cinematic hit raked in over 750 million dollars (approximately 110 billion yen) worldwide and saw massive success in Japan, grossing over 6.5 billion yen.
The film stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, while Princess Aurora is portrayed by Elle Fanning, who debuted as a child prodigy actor at just two years and eight months old in I Am Sam (2001). The director, Robert Stromberg, previously served as the production designer for blockbuster films like Avatar (2009) and Alice in Wonderland (2010). For the Japanese dub, Fukami Rika, who has frequently voiced Angelina Jolie, lends her voice to Maleficent, while the highly acclaimed actress Ueto Aya takes on the role of Princess Aurora. Unravel the mystery of why Maleficent cast a curse on the princess in this film, making it a perfect viewing companion to Sleeping Beauty.
The animated classic Sleeping Beauty, along with Toy Story That Time Forgot, will be broadcast on September 12th, followed by the live-action film Maleficent on September 19th, both on NTV’s “Kinyou Roadshow”.
