Synopsis

Ponyo’s unwavering desire to see Sousuke once more unleashes an unexpected and grand commotion!

Ponyo in her fish form, looking determined.

Ponyo (voiced by Nara Yuria) is a vibrant red fish-girl, born to Fujimoto (voiced by Tokoro George), a wizard who abandoned humanity to dwell in the sea, and the majestic ocean mother, Granmamare (voiced by Amami Yuuki). One day, Ponyo embarks on an adventure. Riding atop a jellyfish, she reaches the shore where she encounters Sousuke (voiced by Doi Hiroki), a bright five-year-old boy. Sousuke lives with his mother, Lisa (voiced by Yamaguchi Tomoko), who works at a nursing home, bravely holding down the fort while his seafaring father, Kouichi (voiced by Nagashima Kazushige), is away. Touched by Sousuke’s kindness, Ponyo quickly falls deeply in love with him. However, Fujimoto, who has witnessed much of humanity’s flaws, takes Ponyo back to the sea and uses his magical powers to imprison her.

Yet, Ponyo’s fervent wish to “see Sousuke” cannot be stopped! With the help of her sisters (voiced by Yano Akiko), Ponyo releases a powerful magical liquid that Fujimoto was developing into the ocean, allowing her to escape back to the surface! But thanks to Ponyo’s spilled magic, the sea reclaims its primordial strength, transforming into a colossal surge that threatens to engulf Sousuke’s town…!!
