What is Angel Day?

October 4th is celebrated as ‘Angel Day’ in Japan. This charming day was established by Triumph, a lingerie brand renowned for its ‘Tenshi no Bra’ (Angel’s Bra) series. The date plays on a clever Japanese wordplay, or goroawase, where ‘Ten (10)’ and ‘Shi (4)’ combine to sound like ‘Tenshi’ (angel).

Angels in Anime: A Diverse Portrayal

As divine messengers, angels are a beloved and familiar presence across countless anime series. Their depictions are incredibly varied and fascinating. Sometimes they are portrayed as benevolent guardians who bring joy and happiness, showering blessings upon those they meet. Other times, however, they can be catalysts for unforeseen troubles, stirring up chaos wherever they go. And often, ‘angel’ even serves as an affectionate nickname for characters with a pure, kind, and gentle disposition, highlighting their heartwarming nature.

In a free-response format, please tell us which characters you consider to be true ‘angels’ and from which beloved works they hail.
