Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika- is a TV anime adaptation of Yuuki Hiroshi-san’s light novel Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku, which earned the Encouragement Prize at the 8th Kyoto Animation Award. The story transports us to an alternative early 20th-century Kyoto, a world where steam engines dominate and the “Electric Age” is yet to arrive. This adventure saga begins with a poignant encounter between a young boy consumed by grief for his elder brother, who shared his dream of the Electric Age, and a devout girl, burdened by both admiration and regret for her deceased mother.

The narrative is a profound tale of “regeneration,” as the characters navigate the secrets of the “Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku.” Through their journey, they confront past regrets, rediscover forgotten dreams, and ultimately reclaim their true selves. This new work from Kyoto Animation follows a busy schedule, which in 2025 includes the release of Eiga Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon Sabishigariya no Ryuu (film Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: The Lonely Dragon) and TV anime CITY THE ANIMATION, with the theatrical release of the first part of Saishuu Gakushou Hibike! Euphonium (film Sound! Euphonium The Final Movement) slated for spring 2026.

Directing the series is Oota Minoru-san, who previously handled episode direction and served as the instrument animation director for Hibike! Euphonium 3, among other notable contributions to Kyoto Animation’s works. This project marks his first directorial debut.

Character design and chief animation director duties are taken on by Okamura Kouhei-san, who was involved in character settings and served as chief animation director for Gekijouban Free! -the Final Stroke-. Suzuki Takaaki-san, who worked on world setting for the Violet Evergarden series and as a historical research/supervisor for Girls & Panzer, is in charge of world setting. The music is composed by Kotou Hitomi-san, marking her first time creating a soundtrack for animation.

For the main cast, Uchida Yuuma-san, known for his roles as Fushiguro Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen and Yohtaka Jun in Medalist, will voice the protagonist Sakamoto Kihachi. Amamiya Sora-san, who portrays Hisaishi Kanade in Hibike! Euphonium and Aqua in Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!, will take on the role of the heroine Momokawa Inako.

Director Oota Minoru-san

This work begins with all the characters having experienced some form of setback, and it’s a story of “regeneration” where they rise again through repeated encounters and conflicts. The sight of these characters, raw with emotion and earnestly pushing forward, is sure to ignite a great warmth in everyone’s hearts. Furthermore, the muted, almost impressionistic setting emphasizes their drama even more, making for a visually fresh and enjoyable experience. Please, experience this new frontier of the KyoAni world with your own eyes.

Series Composition Urahata Tatsuhiko-san

More than 20 years have passed since the 21st century began, but the story we’re bringing to you this time takes place over a century ago, at the dawn of the 20th century. In a world slightly different from ours, an elder brother dreamed of an Electrical Age, and his younger brother, Kihachi, chases after the dream he left behind. And then there’s Inako, who forges a new path for her life through her encounter with Kihachi. Please enjoy the story they unfold against the unfamiliar backdrop of early 20th-century Kyoto!

World Setting Suzuki Takaaki-san

In creating Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika-, we poured our wisdom into figuring out how to depict a world that is very similar to the one we know, yet subtly different—a world that could have existed. The goal was to ensure this setting did not deviate from the story’s theme while also maximizing the charm of its characters and the world itself. I hope that viewers will watch the work and feel a desire to visit “that world.”

Music Kotou Hitomi-san

I am Kotou Hitomi, and I am in charge of the music. I believe that in life, we often “doubt” and feel “uneasy.” While we may harbor suspicions about various information, people’s words, our own hearts, and sometimes even ourselves, “doubt” is necessary in an age where countless conjectures fly around. However, I believe that what supports the human heart, now as always, is “faith.” A strong feeling of “faith,” when piled up, can even lead to miracles that one could not have imagined alone. I think that’s how people have “restarted” in every era. I feel that Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika- is a work that reminds us of things we must not forget, like a quiet flame lit somewhere in our hearts, always shining softly. I would be delighted if, through the music, I could sometimes be close to Kihachi and his companions as they weave their life’s story, and sometimes give them a push. And I hope that a light will be lit in the hearts of all who watch.

Sakamoto Kihachi Voice Actor Uchida Yuuma-san

Sakamoto Kihachi Voice Actor Uchida Yuuma-san

I am honored to play Sakamoto Kihachi in this work. This story is set in an era where steam, not electricity, was dominant. Even during the audition, I was directed to be mindful of this historical period. I remember feeling determined to build up my performance with great care. I will do my best so that many people can enjoy it! Please do watch Nijuuseiki Denki Mokuroku – Eureka Evrika-!

Momokawa Inako Voice Actor Amamiya Sora-san

Momokawa Inako Voice Actor Amamiya Sora-san

When I saw the character designs during the audition, the art was truly beautiful, and the characters’ lines in the script were so endearing and earnest that I strongly felt, “I want to be involved in this work!” and “I want to play Inako!!” Many people’s thoughts intersect around the “Denki Mokuroku” and the pursuit of the “Electric Age.” Although it seems serious, there are also outrageous gags, making it a truly vibrant work! For me, it’s a new style of acting, and it’s been a continuous challenge with every episode since I got the role, but I will do my best to charmingly portray Inako, a straightforward girl who values the power of belief!
