SIFONIA is a dynamic 2.5D talent group comprising six talented individuals: Himanatsu, Ameno Kosame, Iruma, LAN, Suchi, and Mikoto. These members successfully navigated a super-large-scale audition to form the group. Their impactful debut came in August 2022 with the release of their original song, “J0KER×JOK3R”.
Armed with exceptional musicality and innovative planning, SIXFONIA primarily engages in activities such as releasing a variety of original songs, creating challenge videos that utilize their singing and vocal talents, and sharing cover songs known as “Utattemita” (literally “tried to sing,” referring to cover versions posted online). In just two years since their formation, the group has rapidly garnered popularity, expanding their reach and achieving over 1 million channel subscribers on YouTube.
The “SIXFONIA One Man Live【Six-tuation】vol.II -Virtual-” commenced with an immersive experience even before the curtain rose. Announcements by each member played through the virtual venue (streaming screen), creating an atmosphere that made viewers feel as if they were physically present at the concert. The comment section buzzed with excited messages like “I’m so excited!” and “This is thrilling!”, showcasing the audience’s high anticipation. The energy reached a fever pitch as a cyber-themed opening video played, featuring the members brandishing guns against a backdrop of a futuristic city, hinting at an intense battle.
The six members then made their grand entrance with their debut song, “J0KER×JOK3R.” Adorned in their “J0KER×JOK3R” outfits, redesigned with stunning 3D specifications, their 3D models were revealed for the first time. The comments section was instantly flooded with a storm of cheers such as “They’re moving!”, “So cool!”, and “This is the best!”. Maintaining this incredible momentum, they transitioned into their second anniversary song, “Burn it All.” Suchi’s powerful shout and Iruma’s emphatic declaration of “Don’t take your eyes off us!” further amplified the fans’ excitement on the other side of the screen.
During the subsequent opening talk, dynamic camera work unique to a 3D space was skillfully employed, bringing the camera right up close to the members. After performing their familiar self-introductions, the members responded to comments in real-time, with fan comments even displayed on the screen behind the stage, unequivocally proving that the performance was a live stream and not pre-recorded.
A particularly impressive visual effect involved instant costume changes triggered by a single pose from a member. As their capes dramatically came off, the next song, “SHALL WE GONG!?!? -1st battle-“, began. The track showcased a mesmerizing interplay of diverse vocals and rap, highlighting the group’s refined musical prowess.
The first live performance of “Oshikatsu?” (a term for activities related to supporting one’s favorite idol or character) featured lyric motions and camera work perfectly synchronized with the song’s lyrics, creating a truly immersive experience. The comments section erupted with praise, with fans exclaiming, “The direction is divine!” and “The camera work is superb!” Following this, the stage staple “X” made its appearance, leading into an engaging call-and-response session. Online as it was, a powerful sense of unity was forged, as if everyone was sharing the same space.
The excitement continued with back-to-back performances of “Genesix” and “Singuloid”, before transitioning into the MC corner. This segment was filled with playful, “SIFONIA-esque” planning, including a thrilling POV camera angle that gave viewers an audience-eye perspective and an “Acchimuitte Hoi” (a Japanese game similar to “Simon Says” or “Red Light, Green Light” with pointing directions), providing a fun screenshot opportunity for fans.
The latter half of the concert featured “Shout on Three!”, the commemorative song for the group’s 3rd anniversary. The climax built intensely as the new lead track, “Dive II World”, was unveiled for the very first time, sending the audience’s enthusiasm through the roof.
During the final MC session, each member shared their heartfelt thoughts about the performance. Himanatsu expressed, “This live performance is our way of defining what 2.5D means through SIXFONIA. We hope you enjoy it as a foreshadowing of our upcoming real-world concerts.” Suchi added, “If you re-watch this 3D live before coming to our Oosaka and Toukyou shows, I believe you’ll enjoy them even more.”
Iruma shared, “I was truly excited discussing the concept for this live. We want to continue running towards directions that excite all six of us.” Ameno Kosame happily stated, “I’m so glad we could finally unveil our 3D bodies. SIXFONIA will keep on challenging new things.”
LAN built anticipation, saying, “Our next in-person shows will be even more enjoyable if you watch this 3D performance first, so please watch the 3D performance many times and come to our Oosaka and Toukyou venues.” Mikoto, with a warm smile, conveyed his gratitude, “This being our first 3D performance, so many people supported us, and above all, I believe we were able to stand here today thanks to all the fans watching on screen. Thank you so much.”
Finally, Iruma concluded with a captivating line: “Well then, the continuation is in real life. Fantasy is _____.” This led into the final number, “eND oF FaNTaSY.” Towards the end, a glitch-like visual effect was inserted, leaving a lingering impression, almost like a “trailer” hinting at their next stage: the upcoming in-person concerts.
This performance masterfully blended the unique expressive capabilities of 3D with the palpable energy of a live stream, truly opening a new door to a dimension-transcending live experience. An unprecedented challenge awaits in their November and December in-person concerts in Oosaka and Toukyou, where they aim to “reproduce live” the performance they showcased in 3D. Expectations for SIXFONIA’s future are soaring.
