The Enduring Legacy of *Evangelion*

The *Evangelion* series first took the world by storm with the broadcast of its TV series, *Shin Seiki Evangelion*, in 1995, becoming a true social phenomenon. It then relaunched as the *Evangelion Shin Gekijouban* series in 2007, releasing three blockbuster films: *Evangelion Shin Gekijouban: Jo*, *Evangelion Shin Gekijouban: Ha*, and *Evangelion Shin Gekijouban: Kyuu*. The saga concluded with the highly anticipated *Shin Evangelion Gekijouban* in 2021, which garnered immense attention by becoming the first film in the series to surpass 10 billion yen at the box office. Its profound themes, unforgettable characters, and stunning animation have cemented its place in anime history.

Celebrating 30 Years with *Tsukiichi Eva*

This special event, officially known as “Tsukiichi Eva EVANGELION 30th MOVIE Fest.2025-2026” (affectionately abbreviated as “Tsukiichi Eva”), is being held to commemorate the series’ monumental 30th anniversary in 2025. From October 2025 to February 2026, six theatrical *Evangelion* films will be screened for one week each month (with two films featured in October), offering fans a nostalgic journey through the iconic franchise.

The first film of the festival, *Shin Seiki Evangelion Gekijouban: Shi to Shinsei* (screened as the successor version, *DEATH (TRUE)2&REBIRTH*), which opened on October 10, achieved remarkable success with over 120,000 attendees and box office revenue exceeding 200 million yen. Following this impressive start, the second film, *Shin Seiki Evangelion Gekijouban Air/Magokoro wo, Kimi ni*, began its run on October 24. Despite being a film originally released 28 years ago, it managed to secure the 5th spot in the weekend audience attendance rankings. Reports on social media indicate a significant presence of younger viewers who may not have had the chance to see the original theatrical releases, demonstrating the series’ enduring appeal across generations. It’s clear that even after three decades, *Evangelion* continues to capture the hearts of a diverse audience.
