About Gekijouban Project SEKAI: Kowareta SEKAI to Utaenai Miku
Gekijouban Project SEKAI: Kowareta SEKAI to Utaenai Miku marks the inaugural anime film adaptation based on the immensely popular smartphone rhythm and adventure game Project SEKAI Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku, affectionately known as “ProSEKA”. This hit game, a collaboration between SEGA Co., Ltd. and Colorful Palette Inc. (a CyberAgent Group company), has garnered an impressive record of over 39 million downloads worldwide, captivating players with its engaging rhythm gameplay and rich storytelling.
The Story Begins
The story kicks off when Hoshino Ichika, while browsing a CD shop, hears a Hatsune Miku song she has never encountered before. Her attention is drawn to a monitor, where she spots Hatsune Miku in an unfamiliar form, instinctively exclaiming, “Miku!?”
Startled by Ichika’s voice, Miku makes eye contact before vanishing shortly after. Some time later, after finishing a street live performance, the very same Miku reappears, this time on Ichika’s smartphone. Seeing Miku looking dejected and downcast, Ichika gently asks what’s troubling her. Miku reveals her plight: she wishes to deliver her songs to people, but no matter how much she sings, her voice never reaches them, leaving her with a profound sense of loneliness.
Observing Ichika’s ability to profoundly touch the hearts of many with her songs during a live performance, Miku reasoned that if she could understand Ichika better, she might also achieve the same. This heartfelt desire is what led Miku to seek out Ichika. In response to Miku’s sincere wish, Ichika replies with a gentle smile, “If I can be of help,” thus marking the beginning of a brand new, captivating story for Hatsune Miku and these young boys and girls as they embark on a journey of music and self-discovery.
Animation and Reception
This film boasts a completely original story, where a new Hatsune Miku, who doesn’t appear in the main game, meets the beloved “ProSEKA” characters and embarks on a journey of growth and connection. Animation studio P.A.WORKS (known for works like Shirobako and Ya Boy Kongming!) meticulously brings this narrative to life with their signature beautiful visuals and heartfelt storytelling. Since its release on January 17, 2025, the movie has captivated countless fans, raking in an impressive over 1.5 billion yen at the box office and drawing in more than 1.14 million viewers. It has truly stood out as an ambitious challenge in multimedia expansion, garnering significant attention for its fresh take on the beloved Project SEKAI universe.
Don’t miss the chance to witness the conclusion of this heartfelt journey, as Hatsune Miku, burdened by her inability to reach people with her songs, and the dedicated young boys and girls who embrace her desire and strive alongside her to deliver music to the masses, finally confront their destiny and discover the true power of their voices.
Gekijouban Project SEKAI: Kowareta SEKAI to Utaenai Miku will be available for exclusive free streaming on ABEMA starting January 17, 2026 (Saturday) at 8 PM JST.
