About the Anime

The first season of this gritty action-fantasy was produced by the renowned studio Bones Film and premiered on July 6th. It was streamed globally by Crunchyroll, which offered the series with various subtitles and dubbed versions, making it accessible to a wide international audience.

The story throws us into a world with a stark divide between the rich, wasteful upper city and the struggling slums below. We follow Rudo, a boy from the slums who is falsely accused of murder and cast into the nightmarish, trash-filled abyss known as the Pit. There, he discovers a harsh new reality, gains a powerful weapon called a Vital Instrument, and joins a group known as the Cleaners to survive and seek revenge.

Manga Details

The source material, the Gachiakuta manga by Urana Kei with graffiti designs by Andou Hideyoshi, began its serialization in Weekly Shounen Magazine back in February 2022. It’s been going strong, with the 17th volume released in Japan on November 17th. Fans can look forward to the 18th volume hitting shelves on February 17, 2026.

For English readers, Kodansha USA licensed the manga in March 2023. The eighth English volume was published on October 21st, and the ninth is scheduled for release on January 20, 2026.
