Ghost in the Shell Teams Up With SPINGLE for Futuristic Sustainable Sneakers
The iconic cyberpunk world of Koukaku Kidoutai SAC_2045 (also known as Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045) has stepped into the fashion scene with a cool new collaboration. Footwear brand SPINGLE has dropped two new sneaker models, the SP-SAC_2045-A and SP-SAC_2045-B, inspired by the series. These kicks hit select SPINGLE stores, shoe shops, and their official online shop starting December 26, 2025.
About Ghost in the Shell
For the uninitiated, Koukaku Kidoutai (Ghost in the Shell) is a legendary cyberpunk SF franchise. Set in a near-future where human consciousness connects to a vast “cyberbrain” network, it follows Public Security Section 9, a covert ops unit led by the full-body cyborg Kusanagi Motoko, as they battle cybercrime. Originating from the manga by Shirow Masamune, its groundbreaking worldview and visuals have influenced creators worldwide across anime and even Hollywood films.
Koukaku Kidoutai SAC_2045 is the latest anime iteration, a joint directorial effort by Kamiyama Kenji (of the S.A.C. series) and Aramaki Shinji (of the APPLESEED series), produced by Production I.G and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS. It features the beloved original voice cast, including Tanaka Atsuko as Motoko, Ootsuka Akio, and Yamadera Kouichi, delivering a fresh story packed with cutting-edge action. Both seasons premiered globally on Netflix, with compilation films also hitting theaters.
The “Sustainable Walk” Collaboration Theme
SPINGLE’s 2025 theme is “Circle,” exploring concepts of connection and Japan. For their winter collection collaboration with SAC_2045, they drew inspiration from the year 2045 and the series’ key term “Sustainable War,” setting their own theme as “Sustainable Walk.”
Both sneaker models envision what SPINGLE shoes might look like in 2045, using sustainable materials in their design. The color palette, like melange knits, and forms reminiscent of combat boots are directly inspired by protagonist Kusanagi Motoko’s outfits in the anime.
Model SP-SAC_2045-A: The Low-Cut Fusion
The low-cut SP-SAC_2045-A fuses the design of SPINGLE’s popular mid-cut model “SP-442” with Motoko’s wardrobe. The upper uses a knit material that minimizes waste during cutting. For the outsole, it features SPINGLE’s proprietary “RUBEAR CNF Sole,” mixed with cellulose nanofiber (CNF) from plants for enhanced durability. It’s also crafted using SPINGLE’s signature vulcanization method, which bonds the upper and sole with heat and pressure.
Model SP-SAC_2045-B: The Combat Boot Motif
The mid-cut SP-SAC_2045-B takes its cue from the “combat boots” worn in the anime. It also features a waste-minimizing knit upper, but pairs it with a VIBRAM ECOSTEP RECYCLE outsole made with approximately 30% recycled rubber.
Pricing and Availability
The sneakers are priced at 29,150 yen (tax included) for the SP-SAC_2045-A and 36,300 yen (tax included) for the SP-SAC_2045-B. Each comes with special insoles, a unique shoebox, and stickers. They’re available in unisex sizing.
