Dive into the Digital Pet Phenomenon: The “Great Tamagotchi Exhibition” Unveiled!
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Tamagotchi,” details on limited-edition goods and visitor perks for the “Great Tamagotchi Exhibition” have been revealed. Furthermore, a collaboration cafe has been confirmed, and a sneak peek of some exhibition areas has been shared.
Tamagotchi, the handheld digital pet released by Bandai in 1996, became a massive craze initially among high school girls and sparked a social phenomenon both in Japan and abroad. Over the years, it has evolved with the times, releasing a total of 38 models featuring updates like infrared communication (2004), touchscreen LCDs (2021), and Wi-Fi functionality (2023). It’s now available in over 50 regions worldwide.
On July 31, 2025, its cumulative global shipments surpassed a staggering 100 million units. And now, starting January 7, 2026, a commemorative exhibition looking back on Tamagotchi’s 30-year history will open its doors.
Must-Have Exclusive Goods
The exhibition will feature a range of original merchandise. Among the items available for pre-sale or as limited editions, the collaboration pieces with BE@RBRICK are absolute must-sees for any fan. This includes a specially designed Tamagotchi unit and a 400% BE@RBRICK figure.
Other goodies include an exhibition pamphlet, sticker sheets, postcards, and a collection of can badges. These items are perfect as a memento of your visit or as a gift for a fellow Tamagotchi enthusiast.
Digital Souvenirs at “Lab Tama”
The venue will also feature a “Lab Tama” station where you can download exclusive digital items for your Tamagotchi device. This is your only chance to grab these limited-time digital goods! (To manage crowds, the Lab Tama at the exhibition will be limited to downloading these exclusive items only.)
Collaboration Cafe & Food Truck
To coincide with the exhibition, a collaboration cafe will also be held. You can enjoy photogenic and cute meals like omurice and pancakes, along with special collaboration drinks. A food truck will also be on-site, offering takeout menus.
Order any of the collaboration menu items, and you’ll receive one random original coaster as a gift. The coasters feature adorable designs of Tamagotchi characters enjoying meals and cooking.
Visitor Perks: Limited Acrylic Cards
As a special perk for visitors, a limited acrylic card will be given away randomly (one per person). There will be a total of 14 designs, with 7 available in the first half of the exhibition period and 7 in the second half.
Step Inside the Tamagotchi World: Exhibition Preview
A first look at some of the exhibition areas has also been shared. The experience begins at the “Tamagotchi Gate,” where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped right inside a Tamagotchi device, diving deep into the charm of these weird and lovable creatures.
The “Window Room” area lets you peek through the LCD window from inside a Tamagotchi device. It’s a space where you can observe the world as the Tamagotchi sees it and note the changing times of the outside world.
Don’t miss the “Life of a Tamagotchi” area, where you can see the rooms where Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, and Mimitchi live. The furniture arrangement and color choices reflect each character’s unique personality and quirks, so be sure to observe carefully!
Other planned areas include the “Growth Room” where you can experience growing up as a Tamagotchi, the “Survival Strategy Room” monitoring Tamagotchi and their owners worldwide, and “TAMAGOTCHI ANNIVERSARY” featuring behind-the-scenes development stories and numerous works celebrating the 30th anniversary. The exhibition is packed with highlights.
