A Celebration of Shojo Manga: The Ribon 70th Anniversary Cafe Opens!
Get ready to step into the pages of your favorite childhood manga! To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the legendary shojo manga magazine Ribon, a special collaboration cafe is opening for a limited time in Tokyo and Osaka. Fans can look forward to themed food, drinks, and a treasure trove of original goods inspired by iconic series.
A Legacy of Beloved Stories
First published in 1955 by Shueisha, Ribon was born as a sister magazine to the company’s first girls’ manga magazine, Shojo Book. It quickly won the hearts of its main readership—elementary and middle school girls—peaking with a recorded circulation of 2.55 million copies for its February 1994 New Year’s special issue. Over its seven-decade history, the magazine has been home to countless classics. From Sakura Momoko’s beloved Chibi Maruko-chan and Koi Ikeno’s romantic Tokimeki Tonight, to the currently serialized Honey Lemon Soda by Mayu Murata (which got its anime adaptation in January 2025), Ribon’s pages are filled with memories.
The “Ribon 70th Anniversary CAFE” will run in both Tokyo and Osaka, with each venue splitting its run into two halves to feature an even wider array of collaborative menus. It’s the perfect place to relax and reminisce about these wonderful works.
