About the Film & Creative Team
Adapted from the fantasy novel by acclaimed author Higashino Keigo, Kusunoki no Bannin is scheduled to make its grand debut in Japanese theaters on January 30, 2026. The film is shaping up to be a major production with a top-tier staff guiding its creation.
The directorial reins are in the hands of Itou Tomohiko (known for Boku dake ga Inai Machi), with animation production split between the renowned A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studio. The script is being penned by Kishimoto Taku (Magi: Sinbad no Bouken (TV)), ensuring a solid narrative foundation.
Handling the visual side, character designs are a collaborative effort between Itagaki Ayako (Animation Director for Mashle) and Yamaguchi Tsubasa (of Blue Period fame). To top it all off, the film’s score will be composed by the talented Kanno Yuugo (Grancrest Senki).
