Great news for fans of dark fantasy action! The TV anime Jigokuraku (also known as Hell’s Paradise) is roaring back with its second season. We’ve just gotten a fresh look at episode 14, which serves as the premiere of season 2, including a plot summary and some exciting preview screenshots.
What is Jigokuraku All About?
For the uninitiated, Jigokuraku is a thrilling ninja romance action series set in the late Edo period. It’s based on the wildly popular manga by Kaku Yuuji, which was serialized in Shueisha’s Shounen Jump+ and has sold over 6.4 million copies. The anime adaptation is directed by Makita Kaori and brought to life by the renowned studio MAPPA.
The story follows Gabimaru, a legendary ninja known as “the Hollow,” who is captured and sentenced to death. He’s offered a chance at a pardon: voyage to a mysterious, rumored island of eternal life, find the elixir, and bring it back. He’s not alone; he’s joined by other death row convicts and the executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri. What they find on the island is a hellish paradise filled with monstrous beings called “Tensen.”
Season 2 Premiere: Episode 14 “Reimei to Konmei”
The first episode of the new season, titled “Reimei to Konmei” (which can be translated as “Dawn and Stupor”), is set to air on January 11th, 2026. The stakes are higher than ever as the hunt for the elixir reaches its climax.
Episode 14 “Dawn and Stupor” Plot Synopsis:
After reaching the castle of the Tensen who rule the island, our group realizes that cooperation between the convicts and executioners is the only way to survive and escape. Meanwhile, the shogunate has ordered a secondary landing on the island, led by Yamada Asaemon Shugen and including members of the Ishigakure-shuu, who have a past with Gabimaru.
As Gabimaru and the others desperately search for the elixir, the Tensen stand in their way, leading to an all-out war between humans and these celestial beings.
In this episode, Yamada Asaemon Shugen and Yamada Asaemon Toma are commanded by the shogunate to make an additional landing on the island.
On the other front, Gabimaru’s group confronts Aza Choubei and Yamada Asaemon Touma. However, Gabimaru, who has lost his memories due to overusing his Tao, fights without his usual sharpness, becoming “the Hollow Gabimaru.”
