About the Classic Magical Girl Series
Cardcaptor Sakura is a legendary manga that was serialized in the monthly shoujo magazine Nakayoshi from June 1996 to August 2000. The story follows Kinomoto Sakura, who becomes a “Cardcaptor” tasked with retrieving the mystical and potentially dangerous “Clow Cards.” The series was compiled into 12 volumes, with a revised 9-volume edition released later for the magazine’s 60th anniversary.
The anime adaptation aired on NHK from 1998 to 2000. The first two seasons covered the “Clow Card Arc,” and the third season followed the “Sakura Card Arc.” The franchise saw a major revival in 2016 with the start of a new chapter, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc, which concluded after seven and a half years with 80 chapters (16 volumes). Celebrating the anime’s 25th anniversary in 2023, a sequel anime for the Clear Card Arc has also been greenlit.
