MAPPA held its 15th Anniversary Event on Friday, where it announced an anime adaptation of Fujita Naoki‘s manga Beat & Motion. The event revealed the main cast, staff, a teaser visual, and a teaser promotional video. The anime will stream exclusively worldwide on Netflix in 2027.
Voice actors Umeda Shuuichirou (Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!) and Gomazuru Aya (Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi) will star as Tatsuhiko Hirayama and Nico Kashiwagi, respectively.

Fujita Naoki serialized the music manga on Shueisha’s Shounen Jump+ app and website from February 2023 to January 2025, with the sixth and final volume released in March 2025 under the Jump Comics+ imprint.
The series originated from the “Million Tag” contest, an eight-part web competition launched by Shounen Jump+ in June 2021. Beat & Motion won the grand prize, securing its serialization and anime production.
Viz Media and Shueisha’s Manga Plus service licensed the series in English, with the sixth and final volume released in December 2025.
Synopsis
Tatsuhiko Hirayama has loved drawing since childhood and dreamed of working in animation. But after being bullied for his art, he swore never to draw in front of others again. He turned to music, only to become disillusioned by his own mediocrity. One night, while drinking with friends, his self-pitying story angers a drunk woman, who pushes him to reconsider his attitude. He decides to give animation another chance, creates a short video that goes viral, and soon his favorite singer, Nico Kashiwagi, asks for a collaboration on her next music video. When they finally meet, Tatsuhiko is shocked to discover that Nico is the same woman who scolded him at the bar—though she has no memory of that night. As they work together, he begins to see the depth behind her rough exterior.
