The online game GeGeGe no Kitaro: Youkai Yokocho is currently hosting a collaboration event with the film Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo. The event, titled “Youkai Yokocho GeGeGe no Nazo ~Mizuki-hen~,” began on July 2, and a second chapter, “Youkai Yokocho GeGeGe no Nazo ~Kitaro no Chichi-hen~,” will start after maintenance on July 16.
About the Film and the Game
Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo is a feature-length animated film released in November 2023 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of manga artist Mizuki Shigeru. It reveals the secret of Kitaro’s birth, depicting the first meeting between the former Medama Oyaji and Mizuki, and the fate the two fathers must face. The film won the Excellent Animation Award at the 47th Japan Academy Awards and was also re-released as a special edition, Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo Shinsei-ban, with upgraded visuals and sound.
GeGeGe no Kitaro: Youkai Yokocho is a social simulation game developed by Fuji Next Lab. Players who wander into the GeGeGe Forest work together with yokai to defeat evil spirits while developing Youkai Yokocho into a paradise full of cute yokai. The game features characters such as Kitaro, Nekomusume, and Sunakake Baba, allowing players to build their own unique yokai town.
Collaboration Event Details
The “Youkai Yokocho GeGeGe no Nazo ~Mizuki-hen~” event, which started on July 2, follows a story where two figures appear from a mist that has settled over Youkai Yokocho: Mizuki and Kitaro’s father. During the event period, players can obtain limited decorations inspired by the film, including background and ground items based on the “Kurakura Village” that appears in the movie. A shop themed after the “Teikoku Ketsueki Ginkou” (Imperial Blood Bank) and a standing panel of Mizuki are also available as in-game rewards.
New Player and Returning Player Bonuses
For first-time players, completing the tutorial after a new registration grants a set of premium items worth 10,000 yen, which can be used in the ongoing collaboration event. Additionally, to celebrate the collaboration, new players can receive another 5,000 yen worth of items. Returning players (those who have not played for a while) can also claim items worth 5,000 yen during the campaign period. The “New Start Dash & Comeback Boost” campaign runs from July 2, 18:00 (after maintenance) until July 30, 13:59.
The game recently released a LINE mini-app version, making it even easier to jump in and enjoy the collaboration event.
