New Aikatsu Stars! Movie ‘Hoshihoshi no Progress’ to Open in Early Spring 2027 – Teaser Revealed

A brand-new theatrical film for the Aikatsu Stars! franchise has been officially announced. Titled Aikatsu Stars! ~Hoshihoshi no Progress~, the movie is set to hit theaters in early spring 2027. The surprise reveal came alongside the release of a teaser trailer and a fresh key visual.

The Aikatsu! series began in 2012 with the launch of Data Carddass arcade machines and a television anime, following girls striving to become top idols through their idol activities (or “Aikatsu!”). Over the years, the franchise has expanded to include Aikatsu!, Aikatsu Stars!, Aikatsu Friends!, Aikatsu on Parade!, and Aikatsu Planet!. In 2023, the series celebrated its 10th anniversary with the theatrical film Aikatsu! 10th STORY ~Mirai e no STARWAY~. The following year saw the release of the streaming series Aikatsu Academy!. The franchise has remained popular across television, Data Carddass, toys, apparel, goods, live performances, films, and streaming. In October 2026, the Data Carddass game will return as Aikatsu! Encore, accompanied by a terrestrial TV encore broadcast of the original Aikatsu! anime. The “All Aikatsu!” initiative continues across multiple media.

The new movie was announced via a surprise teaser that played after the main feature during the revival screenings of Gekijouban Aikatsu Stars! -Anniversary Stars-, which began on July 3 at 70 theaters nationwide. The teaser includes nostalgic clips from the original TV series alongside new footage from Aikatsu Stars! ~Hoshihoshi no Progress~, accompanied by the message “10 years of thanks.” The teaser promises an exciting experience, and a new key visual featuring Niji no Yume in a fresh dress has also been released.

This completely new film reunites key staff from the original series, with director Sato Teruo and scenario writer Kakihara Yuuko returning. Sato commented, “Ten years ago, I said, ‘Dreams aren’t something you just see; they’re something you make come true,’ and I was able to push everyone forward. Fortunately, I’ve been given the chance to create a new theatrical film that can once again deliver a message to everyone. After ten years, I’ve thought long and hard about what I want to convey and what I can convey, and I’ve packed it all in!”

Kakihara added, “It’s been a whirlwind ten years. As time passes, the dreams of our fans may also be changing. Yume and the others are still shining and running in that same place. I hope that this long-awaited Aikatsu Stars! film becomes a star of hope for those who see it, and a new starting line.”

Advance movie tickets (Mubichike) went on sale starting July 3. Priced at 1,600 yen (tax included), purchasers will receive an A5 clear file featuring the key visual of Yume. The bonus tickets are limited in quantity, so early purchase is recommended.
