The manga Mii-chan and Yamada-san is getting an anime adaptation, with a release window set for 2027. Alongside the announcement, a special PV and a celebratory illustration and comment from original creator Azuki Nene have been released.
About the Manga
Mii-chan and Yamada-san is serialized in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket (Magapoke). The story is set in 2012 in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district. Yamada-san works as a hostess in the nightlife area, and one day meets Mii-chan, a new girl who is always “a little short” in everything she does. Despite her enthusiasm and energy, Mii-chan can’t read kanji or read the room, often being ridiculed by others. However, her earnest efforts gradually draw Yamada-san’s heart. The series depicts their 12 months together.
The manga has sold over 2.8 million copies in total across its first six volumes. It ranked 4th in the male category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2026, and related videos on YouTube and TikTok have surpassed 100 million cumulative views. The series is set to conclude with its upcoming seventh volume, and the anime announcement comes as the story reaches its final stages.
Special PV and Illustration
The anime adaptation announcement PV shows Mii-chan and Yamada-san standing hand in hand in front of the Kabukicho Ichibangai gate, with their voices reflecting on the days they’ve spent together, giving a somewhat fleeting feel.
To mark the news, the official anime X (formerly Twitter) account has opened. Azuki Nene also shared a newly drawn celebratory illustration featuring the two characters smiling together amid colorful confetti, with the words “Congratulations!! Anime Adaptation!” Mii-chan’s pet hamster, Hamukatsu, can also be seen in her hands.
