New merchandise inspired by the classic manga and anime series BANANA FISH is on the way, with two Kyoto-crafted items that capture the bond between Ash Lynx and Eiji Okumura. The products are themed around the concept of “words I want to deliver to you.”
BANANA FISH is a suspense-action story originally serialized by Yoshida Akimi in Bessatsu Shoujo Comic from 1985 to 1994. It follows Ash Lynx, the leader of a New York street gang, and Eiji Okumura, a Japanese boy who comes to New York for an interview, as they pursue the truth behind the mysterious phrase “Banana Fish.” A TV anime adaptation aired from July to December 2018.
Now, two new items are being released: the “Kyoto Yuzen Pattern Paper BOX (Letter Set)” and the “Kyoto Braided Shoelaces.”
Kyoto Yuzen Pattern Paper BOX (Letter Set)
The letter set comes in a box whose interior uses Kyoto yuzen pattern paper, created by layering seven yuzen dyeing patterns. The hand-dyed warmth beautifully expresses Ash and Eiji. In an age when handwriting has become rare, this item encourages you to spin the words that fill your heart and put them into writing, offering a wonderful time.
Two designs are available: Type A, which lets you enjoy their gentle smiles, and Type B, which highlights their innocent, bright smiles. Choose your favorite.
Kyoto Braided Shoelaces
The shoelaces are made by Shouen Kumihimo, a long-established Kyoto store, using special colored braided cords finished as shoelaces. An original metal plate adds a beautiful accent, making these a fun accessory for going out.
These also come in two varieties: a yellow-based version and a black-based version. You could get both and switch depending on your mood.
